Ron Paul Aims to Win Bid: Don’t Count Him Out for 2012
We’ve been following all the news regarding the Republican presidential bids for 2012 and time and time again have noticed the avid support for Texas congressman Ron Paul from our readers. Although some may have wondered if Paul was really aiming to win, Paul has made it quite clear that he intends to stay very much in the race and should not be counted out yet.
Although Ron Paul has not won any of the primaries so far he is still very firmly in contention. However much of the mainstream media still regards him as somebody running to promote his message rather than seeing him as a credible contender. However, just ahead of the Florida primary on Tuesday, Paul has made his position quite clear. Yesterday he was campaigning in Maine, picking up the endorsement of Linda Bean, a well-known Republican activist there.
Ron Paul explained why he was not campaigning in Florida where Romney is leading the poll and said, “Some other campaigns have many, many millions of dollars to run a campaign. We maximize the delegates the way we’re doing it,” according to an Associated Press report. Asked whether he would back any of his current rivals he said firmly, “I think that’s premature. We have a ways to go,” something that will certainly please many of his supporters.
An article over on The Washington Times by Conor Murphy also makes some very valid points about the fact that Ron Paul is actively campaigning to win and is not in the race just to make up the numbers. Murphy says that although sections of the mainstream media seem to view Paul as an unelectable fringe candidate the fact is that Paul’s campaign this time means business, one example being that he is one of the only candidates to get on to all 50 ballots. Another indication is the fact that although Ron Paul prefers to present his ideas and avoid attacking opponents, he has stepped up attacks against the other candidates just recently as he has realized that it’s par for the course. He was always reluctant to do this previously and so this also shows his intent to win.
Yet another point made is that in 2008 it was very much considered amongst the media that Paul had a ‘ceiling’ of support, and that may have been accurate at that time. However this time some media are still pushing the so-called ‘ceiling’ as a reason that Paul cannot win and that is not the case in 2012. In fact Murphy says, “Ron Paul and his campaign have realized that the “ceiling” that the media talks about does not exist and has simply been created to discourage potential supporters.”
Nobody is saying the road ahead for Ron Paul will be easy then, but certainly for now he shouldn’t be counted out and Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum would do well to remember that. We’re convinced that Ron Paul is aiming to win his presidential bid, even though it will be a tough task but we’d like to hear your thoughts on this. Do you think Ron Paul is fighting to win? Does he have your support? Let us know with your comments.
