PSN Down Starting Thursday – Sony Times

If you’re trying to get on the PlayStation Network tomorrow (Thursday) and are having no success you’ll be wondering what’s going on. That’s why we’re here to alert you to the fact that the PSN will be down tomorrow for scheduled routine maintenance and we have more of the details for you.

In November we told of some maintenance work on the PSN system scheduled to take 14 hours and this latest down time is also scheduled to mean the PSN will be down for 14 hours. So far this looks likely to only affect Europe as the maintenance time was announced on the EU PlayStation Blog Twitter account. The same message has not yet appeared for the US but if it does we’ll let you know. Previously though, maintenance has sometimes taken place for PSN Europe and US at the same time, as in November.

During the evening and overnight maintenance it will also not be possible to access the PlayStation Store or PlayStation Network account management. It’s handy to be pre-warned about these occasional down times as if you happen to be already online when the service becomes unavailable, you should be able to continue online play. The times scheduled for the maintenance are from 4pm GMT on Thursday January 19 through to 6am GMT on Friday (or 5pm to 7am CET).

This is once again set to be an extensive period with no PSN then and there’s no word yet on what exact maintenance is being undertaken. We do know from comments on previous PSN down times that the hours without the service can be very frustrating, especially when it’s scheduled for the evening and overnight when many people usually play online, as this time is. You can keep informed and see the original announcement on the PlayStation EU Twitter feed here and we’ll also be checking out the PlayStation US Twitter feed here in case an announcement is made about the US PSN service.

We’d like to hear your thoughts on yet another long PSN outage for maintenance. Would you rather Sony plan maintenance for the daytime when maybe it wouldn’t affect so many gamers? Let us have your comments on this latest PSN scheduled down time.
