iOS 5.1 Potential Reveal Alongside iPad 3 at February Event
The closer we get to the expected launch of the Apple iPad 3 the more speculation there is. Any new Apple product always provokes a huge amount of anticipation and debate and the iPad 3 is no exception. We have more news today that the next operating system, iOS 5.1, could be revealed at the same time as the next iPad in early February.
In our last iPad news we told how a new report had backed up previous rumors of a March release and how sources said that the iPad 3 would be ramped up to full production in February. More information now affirms this yet again by stating the iPad 3 will be unveiled in early February at the same time as iOS 5.1, Apple’s next mobile operating system. The third beta of iOS 5.1 was released to developers last week, although there’s no confirmation yet of when it will be released to the public.
Over on BGR, Zach Espstein tells how an Apple event is being planned for early February for the big announcement, as reported by Macotakara (a Japanese website). Macotakara claims this news is from Apple supply chain sources and an unveiling in February would certainly fit with an actual release in March. The new iOS will be an interesting factor for many, especially following reports that the iOS 5.1 beta 3 software suggests the new operating system will feature system-wide Facebook integration.
Apple Insider sourced from iMore tells how an iOS Contacts app screenshot shows a Facebook user name option as well as Twitter. When iOS 5 was released in fall last year, a key feature was the system-wide Twitter integration that boosted Twitter signups by 25%. The implication that this system-wide integration will now come for Facebook will appeal to many people. When iOS 5.1 is publicly released it will be compatible for the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, the iPad and iPad 2 and of course the next iPad and third and fourth-generation iPod touch.
If these latest leaks are accurate it looks as though there will not be too much longer to wait until we hear more about both iOS 5.1 and also the iPad 3.
