iPhone 5 Will Be “Monster Upgrade” on Release Reports Analyst
Regular readers of Only Kent will know that we enjoy keeping up with developments regarding the latest tech products. The Apple iPhone 5 is already being widely discussed with rumors running rife of whether it will be quad-core or feature LTE connectivity. According to an analysts report it’s now predicted that the iPhone 5 will be a “mega upgrade” on release, with a complete revamp.
Sales of Apple’s iPhone 4S over the holiday quarter are forecast to be around 30 million units and the success of this handset, that had no new cosmetic design, looks set to mean that the iPhone 5 will be an even bigger success on release. Gene Munster, the well-known and respected Piper Jaffray analyst, put up his projected iPhone sales for this quarter from 26 million to 30 million in an investors note today. He also suggests that prediction could still be too low and that as many as 34 million iPhone’s may have been sold in the quarter ending in December.
The idea that the iPhone 4S with no new design has managed such big sales leads Munster to predict great things for the iPhone 5. According to Apple Insider, Munster said in his report, “If Apple sells 30 (million)-plus iPhones in Dec., with no new form factor, up from 17.1m in Sept., it would be evidence supporting our survey work indicating that 94% of iPhone users plan to upgrade to a new iPhone. This theme suggests iPhone 5, which we are expecting in Aug. with a new form factor, will be a monster upgrade.”
Note that Munster not only talks about a new form factor but also mentions August for a launch of the iPhone 5. A week ago we also told how the iPhone 5 topped a survey for the most wanted tech product of 2012 and Munster’s beliefs certainly back this up. In other iPhone news today BGR tells how the next-generation iPhone could have up to 20 times improved graphics. That will certainly get many iPhone fans salivating!
We’d like to hear your thoughts on Munster’s report findings. The figures do suggest phenomenal sales of the iPhone 5 when it launches. Are you waiting to upgrade your current iPhone to the iPhone 5? Let us know with your comments.
