New HTC Edge Quad-Core Smartphone Leak: Jaw-Dropping Specs
We’ve been bringing details of upcoming smartphones and at the moment it’s a busy time, especially for Verizon with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, HTC Rezound and Motorola Droid RAZR all coming this month. If we thought these latest dual-core processor handsets were an improvement though, then imagine one of the first Android smartphones with a quad-core processor. Meet the HTC Edge.
Details of the HTC Edge have been leaking out and yesterday Evan Blass over on Pocketnow showed some renders of the phone along with information from a “reliable source.” From the images we reckon this could be a beauty of a handset and the specs seem almost out of this world, although we should remember these are not confirmed. What we have so far though is a 1.5GHz quad-core AP30 Tegra 3 processor. The thought of smartphones arriving with quad-core CPU’s will no doubt excite many.
Other leaked specs include a whopping 4.7-inch display, 1GB of RAM, backlit 8-megapixel camera with 28-milimeter, f/2.2 lens, likely internal storage of 32GB, Bluetooth radio 4.0. and HTC Beats Audio, much praised on the upcoming HTC Rezound. Indeed Blass makes the point that the HTC Edge seems very much an update of the Rezound, which is not even out yet. The HTC Edge is set for release in the first or second quarter of 2012, which may throw another hat in the ring for those of you thinking about buying a new smartphone right now.
Now Jonathan Geller over on BGR has added some more details about information received for the HTC Edge. It seems the display will be a 4.7-inch 720p HD S-LCD 2 with optical lamination which BGR describes as “possibly one of the best displays in the world,” likening it to an enlarged iPhone display. Further to that the HTC Edge is likely to have a unibody, microSIM card slot, and 1080p HD video capture. The front-facer is said to be 720p. Other features are NFC support and a 1,800 mAh battery.
All-in-all then the HTC Edge looks as though it may be pretty hard to beat when it finally releases and we shall bring you updated information as we hear it. We certainly hope these details will be accurate and can only wonder for now, what the price may be with such cutting edge (excuse the pun) specs and what carrier it may appear on. We’d like to hear your opinions on the HTC Edge and its quad-core processor. Might you even defer a current smartphone purchase to wait for the Edge? Let us know with your comments.
