Essential Motorola Droid Razr Guide: Official Release, Price, Specs
We’ve been giving readers information about the Motorola Droid RAZR (aka Spyder) for some time, including some leaked specs and then more recently details of the Motorola event for the big reveal of this hotly-anticipated handset today. We can now tell you that the Motorola Droid RAZR on Verizon has now been officially announced and we have to say it’s looking very impressive. Read on for details of release, price and specs.
First off we should tell you that the official name of this Android handset is the Droid RAZR and a lot of people will be very pleased to hear it described as the world’s thinnest smartphone at only 7.1 mm thickness. The release date for the Droid RAZR is unspecified other than ‘early November’ when it will be released globally and it will be priced at $299 on the usual two-year contract. In the US Verizon is to begin taking pre-orders on October 27 and the Droid RAZR will have 4G LTE connectivity, which again will satisfy many Big Red customers.
One of the things that was attracting a lot of attention to the Droid RAZR was the rumored brand-new type of display said to be qHD Super AMOLED. This has now been confirmed as a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED with advanced qHD featuring Gorilla Glass, which we can’t wait to see. The phone has Kevlar casing, runs on the Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread OS and has a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage expandable with microSD card, and 8-megapixel rear camera with 1080p HD video capture and front-facing HD video camera.
In addition there’s also a 1,800mAh battery and the RAZR also has SmartActions software to conserve your battery as much as possible. MotoCast is a personal cloud feature allowing you to stream from a laptop to the handset and the RAZR also has Moto Lapdock 100 and 500 Pro compatibility, according to Joseph Volpe over on Engadget.
Vice president and chief marketing officer for Verizon Wireless, Marni Walden released a statement saying, “Droid Razr by Motorola combines style, performance and the power of Verizon Wireless’s 4G LTE network into one innovative device. These are two iconic brands that separately symbolize the best technology available today. The combination will provide an unsurpassed wireless experience for customers,” according to Emily Banks over on Mashable.
We’ve been giving you details of another hot upcoming smartphone the Samsung Galaxy Nexus which we expect to hear announced at an event tomorrow morning in Hong Kong, that’s tonight in the US. Check out our article for world times for the Galaxy Nexus event here. The price for the Galaxy Nexus aka Nexus Prime is rumored to be $299.99, the same price as has been confirmed for the Droid RAZR so expect these handsets to be major competition for each other.
What are your initial thoughts on the just-announced Motorola Droid RAZR? Have you already made up your mind to purchase or maybe you’re going to wait and see what the Galaxy Nexus has to offer (expected to be the first Android to run on the new Ice Cream Sandwich OS)?
