New Samsung Galaxy S III Specs Leak: Even Better Than Expected?

Back in September we published an article about the Samsung Galaxy S III (S3), which probably surprised many of you as the Galaxy S II has only just hit shelves in the U.S. The leaked specs for the S III were more than impressive but today word comes to us of a new leak and if accurate the specs are even better than we first expected.

Although the Galaxy S II has seen phenomenal success it’s certainly feasible that the S III is already in development and we gave a speculated mid-2012 release date for it. The original leaked specs were for a 2GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory (expandable), and a 4.65 Super AMOLED III display. On top of that it was rumored to have a 10-megapixel camera with 1080p HD video capture, built-in NFC chip, a 2250mAh battery and all running on the next Android mobile OS, 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich along with TouchWiz 5. These specs and features were enough to blow us away but the new leak today suggests more!

Over on Phandroid, Kevin Krause gives the news from the latest leak, which apparently appeared on a slide from an internal presentation to representatives from retail and carriers. This particular slide showed the evolution of the Galaxy S line and ended by showing an image and some specs for the Galaxy S III. Instead of the 2GHz quad-core processor that we first heard of the new leak reveals a 1.8GHz dual-core processor (much more likely). However all the other features listed are better than our original specs leak info. For example a 12-megapixel camera, 2GB of RAM and 4.6-inch Super AMOLED Plus HD display, currently in development.

The same source quoted NFC support and LTE connectivity so it seems there’s nothing not to like. Oh, and if you thought the Galaxy S II was slim, the S III is apparently even thinner. Phandroid does point out some flaws in the image though so there’s a possibility of the new leak being fake and of course this is all unconfirmed. However, if it were genuine then the S III would knock the socks off the current competition, as well as the Galaxy Nexus that’s hotly-anticipated to be released soon.

Over on T3, Luke Johnson tells us that the Samsung Galaxy S II yesterday won T3’s Phone of the Year award and it looks like with the S III Samsung is going all out to keep up the good work. Also it’s expected that the Galaxy S III will be revealed at MWC 2012 in February. We’d like to hear your thoughts on the rumored specs of the Galaxy S III. Do you think they’re too good to be true or maybe you think they’re likely to be accurate and you’ll be first in line on release day? Let us know with your comments.
