Elizabeth Warren Candidacy for Senate: Plus Video Announcement

There’s interesting news today following months of speculation about Elizabeth Warren, as she has officially announced her candidacy for Senate in Massachusetts with a video, earlier today. Harvard University law professor Ms. Warren, posted the video, which you can see below, to her new campaign site.

You can see Warren’s new website www.elizabethwarren.com at the link provided and you can also view the video below this story. Democrat Warren fought for a consumer protection agency in the federal government and at one time hoped to lead that agency but the post went to somebody else after Republican opposition.

Ms. Warren will be up against Republican Scott Brown, who won a special election for a Senate seat after the death of Edward. M. Kennedy in 2009. In the video Warren states her reasons for running as, “middle class families have been chipped at, hacked at, squeezed and hammered for a generation now, and I don’t think Washington gets it,” according to Michael D. Shear over on The New York Times.

Criticizing big corporation advantages Ms. Warren also said, “A big company, like GE, pays nothing in taxes, and we’re asking college students to take on even more debt to get an education? We’re telling seniors they may need to learn to live on less? It isn’t right, and it’s the reason I’m running.”

Bob Oakes over on WBUR says that Ms. Warren also appeared on Morning Edition earlier today. One concern from analysts is that many will not know her name and addressing this Warren said, “I will work my heart out for this. This is something I care about. I grew up on the ragged edge of the middle class and I’ve spent my whole life working for middle-class families, so you better believe over the next 14 months I’ll be out there meeting every single person in the commonwealth that I can.”
