CDMA Verizon iPhone 3,2: Is this the prototype?

We’ve been posting articles about the long-awaited Verizon iPhone for what seems like an awful long time now, and we know how many of you are still avidly waiting for it. Just recently we wondered if there might be an announcement from the Apple Back to the Mac media event later today, (Wednesday October 20), but that seems highly unlikely given the name of the event.

At the weekend we then published an article attempting to sum up all the rumors and speculation in an attempt to establish exactly what can be expected, where we said that the likely release of a Verizon iPhone in January 2011 would be very similar to the AT&T iPhone 4 except that it would have CDMA chips.

Now we’ve just taken a look at an intriguing article over on SlashGear by Chris Davies, sourced from Richy Rich, which reports that a CDMA iPhone prototype has been seen, the N92. It also shows a selection of photographs of the phone that was reported on back in August by John Gruber of Daring Fireball, which was then at the engineering verification stage. However now it appears that the CDMA iPhone is at the device verification testing stage.

A closer look at this photographed prototype shows a micro-SIM slot with fits nicely with an earlier report from Chris Burns over on Slash Gear, about an iPhone 3,2. There’s no way of telling is this is the real deal but news of the January release of a Verizon iPhone looks more and more promising and that still leaves plenty of time for yet more ‘leaks’.

For more on this and a look at the photos go to slashgear.com. What do you think of this leaked prototype? We’re always interested in what you have to say so feel free to send in your comments.
