Windows Phone 7: Launch event today – What’s coming

Back in September we told how Microsoft was set to launch the Windows Phone 7 mobile operating system and that the date we expected at the time was October 11. Well, today is October 11 and we are looking forward to the Windows Phone 7 launch event which will indeed take place today at 09:30 ET in New York (that’s 2:30 pm in the U.K).

Microsoft’s own Steve Ballmer will officially launch Windows Phone 7 and the really big news that people are anticipating is the launch of the new handsets that will use it. The new OS offers a new interface, improved menus, and enhanced integration with social networking along with more, according to Ionut Arghire over on Softpedia.

We’ve heard rumors of some of the handsets that might run on the new OS, some of which are the HTC HD7, the HTC Trophy, the Samsung Cedar and LG E900 and C900, and we are expecting that some of these may be launched for Europe on October 21, and there is now more news that some handsets running Windows Phone 7 will be released in the U.S. on November 8.

It will be interesting to see which handsets are released on which carriers first so we’ll be looking at the event closely for the big reveal. For more on this go to softpedia.com. Microsoft really need Windows Phone 7 to be a big hit in order to regain some of its competitive edge against BlackBerry, Android or iOS systems but do you think Windows Phone 7 can live up to this? We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on this so please do send in your comments.
