Verizon iPhone release February? Quarter would leave AT&T for Verizon

There’s some interesting news for those people, and we know there are many, who are still hanging on waiting for a Verizon iPhone. There has been so much speculation for so long now surrounding a Verizon iPhone 4 that we almost lose track but the general consensus among tech sites for some time has been a possible release in January, which would mean an end to Apple’s current exclusivity deal with AT&T.

We recently wrote about the lack of a Verizon iPhone or White iPhone 4 announcement from the recent Apple media Event and also asked as Apple’s iOS is now losing ground to Android, whether Apple should be getting out that Verizon iPhone. Now a report from Emma Woollacott over on TG Daily looks into a report from Credit Suisse about what would happen to AT&T once its exclusivity ends and a Verizon iPhone is launched which the article says they believe would be on February 15.

The Credit Suisse survey shows that almost a quarter, 1.4 million, of current AT&T iPhone users would change their carrier to Verizon if this happened. While many would wait until their contracts ran out 3% said they would switch immediately even if it meant breaking their contracts. Credit Suisse therefore report that new Verizon users could maybe double and that the giant carrier could gain 4 million new users next year.

However it’s not all bad news for AT&T as Credit Suisse has still raised the company’s rating from ‘neutral’ to ‘outperform’. For more on this go to We cannot be sure about that Verizon iPhone date of February 15 but obviously someone, somewhere believes it. If it did happen are you an AT&T user who would jump ship to Verizon? We’d be interested to hear your views on this so please do send in your comments.

Most defiantly i will switch to Verizon for various reasons,
One being no unlimited data and the fear of going over
not having the freedom of use data anywhere or anytime without using WI-FI.

I recently got the iphone4 because i couldn't wait but if Verizon carries the Iphone next month
i will with no doubt cancell my contract and switch to them imminently…..Enough said.

I would drop AT&T like a wet noodle if this happens, no matter what penalties are implemented. I have had more dropped calls with AT&T it's ridiculous, no wonder they give you roll over minutes. It might not happen in January, but I know it will happen in the near future.

The rumor-mill is running over time in predicitng Verizon iPhone possibility. Since its release in 2007, the iPhone has only been available in models compatible with UMTS-GSM networks. I will say now what I have always said: I will believe it when I see the phones on the shelf in a Verizon store
Though according to TechCrunch, Apple is buying millions of CDMA chipsets for a Verizon iPhone launch. Daring Fireball’s John Gruber penned an interesting piece and says that the CDMA iPhone is just one step below “design verification test,” He also notes that now is about the time that Apple will have to begin committing to full-scale production for such a project if it is planning a January launch as rumored, and consequently leaks are shows that a CDMA iPhone may finally be becoming a reality.
