U.S. Open Tennis 2010: Purse and prize money for winners

We’re into the very final stages of the U.S. Open 2010 tennis tournament and at this very moment the men’s singles final between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal has just begun. The match should have been played yesterday but was rained off, however so far today the weather looks promising and at the moment two of the best tennis players in the world are on court in the sunshine.
We know how many of you are interested to know all about the total purse and prize money for these big tennis tournaments and we have that information for you about the U.S. Open 2010. This year it was announced that there would be record prize money for the event with a total purse of $22.6 million, over a million more than last year’s total purse, according to usopen.org.
Kim Clijsters of Belgium already won the women’s singles title and won base prize money of $1,700,000. Whoever wins the men’s final right now will win an identical amount. That’s not all though as this is just the base amount and both players could win up to $1 million extra if they are in the top 3 men and women finishers in the Olympus U.S. Open Series where another $2.6 million is on offer in total.
The other base money for the losing finalist for both men and women is $850,000, while if a player finishes in the semi-final there’s $400,000 and a quarter-final finish earns the player $200,000. If you want to see a table displaying all the top prize money as a base amount or with bonuses go to usopen.org. As I speak the first set of the men’s final is drawn on 2 games each but shortly one of these players will be at least $1,700,000 richer. What do you think about the prize money on offer at the U.S. Open 2010? We’d be interested in your thoughts on this so feel free to send in your comments.
