Tragic death of Shoya Tomizawa Moto 2 rider in San Marino GP crash
There was tragedy today at the Moto2 San Marino Grand Prix when Japanese rider, Shoya Tomizawa, was killed after a horrific crash involving 2 other riders. Tomizawa, aged only 19, was part of the Suter team and was travelling at high speed when the impact occurred.
The crash happened as he rounded a bend and fell and was then run into by the two other riders involved, Alex De Angelis and Scott Redding, according to a Reuters report over on The Guardian. Although both of those motorcyclists also fell they seem to have come away virtually unscathed.
After the incident the race continued even though there were calls for it to be stopped by TV commentators. Dr. Claudio Costa on the world championship motorcycling medical team announced Tomizawa’s sad death. After the race other riders in the premier MotoGP class were informed and Valentino Rossi, MotoGP world champion said to Mediaset television, “I found out now, when things like this happen nothing else matters. He was a lovely guy, it was a horrible accident.”
