New Apple iPod Touch feature that Steve Jobs didn’t promote
At the much-anticipated Apple Event that took place last week a host of new Apple products and innovations was unveiled, such as Apple TV, the iTunes 10 download with Ping and the new operating system iOS 4.1. Also of course the product everybody was expecting to see, the new iPod Touch 4G was revealed.
We’ve already brought you release and pricing details, and more on specs but now it appears another feature has been unearthed that Steve Jobs didn’t promote. An article over on AllNewsMac by Steve Mayo, sourced from 9 to 5 Mac, tells us that the new iPod Touch can give users vibration alerts.
As it supports FaceTime video calling which Apple bills as ideal for sign language, the vibration alert could be very useful in alerting the hard-of-hearing that they have a call coming in. On one of the feature pages for the iPod Touch Apple talks about this and says, “If somebody wants to start a video call with you, you ‘ll receive an invitation — along with a vibrating alert —on your iPod touch asking you to join.”
It’s certainly unusual to find a feature on any Apple product which Steve Jobs himself has not vigorously promoted but this new vibration alert certainly sounds like a useful function.
