Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon 2010: David Archuleta Set to Perform

Every year since 1966, the Jerry Lewis Telethon has taken place around Labor Day weekend. Well that time has come round again, and this year’s event – which raises money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association – is going to be kicking off very soon.

As reported by Connie Ann Kirk at examiner.com, former “American Idol” runner-up David Archuleta is due to perform at this year’s event, which will be broadcast live from the South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa in Las Vegas beginning at 9pm ET.

19-year old David – who lost out to David Cook in season 7 – made an announcement on his Twitter page on Saturday, telling his fans that he will be performing “Things Are Gonna Get Better,” which is from the singer’s upcoming CD “The Other Side of Down.”

According to his tweets, fans should expect to see his performance around 10pm PST time Sunday night (around 1:00am Monday morning for those watching on the East coast). The Jerry Lewis Telethon raised over $65 million in 2008 and more than $60 million last year.

Yes I am one of David Archuleta's avid fans. It is so exciting to wait for another new song come from his heart, out of his lips, to my anxious ears. He never, I repeat, NEVER disappoints me. So far I love, love, love Elevator and love Something 'Bout Love and now we are going to hear for the first time, Things Are Gonna Get Better. As he has told us this new album represents him and David is all about finding the positive in everything we experience in life. I just love the kid to pieces. I am one of his older fans btw.

David just brought me to tears, with his most beautiful, uplifting new song that he sang on the telethon!! Wow is all I can say!!
He really has a voice and heart like not other, and the combination is just so heartwarming! He puts a smile on people's faces, and a song in the hearts of whomever he touches. He spreads happiness and love wherever he goes. I cannot wait to hear his new album coming out on Oct. 5th. It is called "The Other Side of Down"!

Congrats to Jerry Lewis for all of his tireless efforts over the past 60 years!! He is such a wonderful humanitarian and definitely an icon! Bless his HUGE heart!!!

Jerry Lewis has given a great deal of himself to this worthy cause, and I'm not at all surprised to see David Archuleta a part of it this year. David has shown many times his love for others in contributing to many other causes such as the relief for Haiti. I am one of David's much older fans and I just love this kid. He is the best out there today, maybe ever, and I've been around a long time. He sings everything with so much heart and love that it's impossible to not feel what he feels in every song. I loved the song he sang last night, "Things Are Going To Get Better"; the lyrics are perfect for the event. And I am excited to hear the rest of his new album. God Bless Jerry and David!!

God Bless David for sharing his life and VOICE with all of us, and God Bless Jerry for every year that he works hard to eradicate this terrible disease.
