Tiger Woods: Priceless Ryder Cup 2010 wildcard lift
The Ryder Cup 2010 is fast approaching, this year to be played at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, Wales between October 1 and October 3, and we’ve been following who may or may not make the teams. A week ago we brought you the news of the finalized European team declared by Captain Colin Montgomerie, who chose Padraig Harrington, Luke Donald and Edoardo Molinari for wildcard places.
Over to the U.S. team captained by Corey Pavin who will be announcing his final team this coming Tuesday, according to Peter Higgs over on the Mail Online. For some time now a lot of speculation has surrounded Tiger Woods and his poor form and recently the chance to automatically qualify for a place on the Ryder Cup team passed him by as he had not returned to form. All the talk then was whether Corey Pavin would choose him for one of the 4 captain’s pick wildcard places. Alternatively many wondered if Pavin would be brave enough not to pick Woods, because of his recent form.
However this may not be so much of an issue right now as the Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston is in progress and in today’s second round Tiger Woods had a blinding return to form with a 6-under par score of 65. Woods almost missed out on making the cut on Friday after a poor round of 72 so this recovery today will help him make his case for being chosen. Recently Pavin has been quoted as saying about Woods that he is “high on my list,” for a pick as wildcard but this improved performance by Woods will certainly make that decision easier.
It’s all looking set to be an intriguing Tuesday when the U.S. Ryder Cup team is finally announced. For more on this go to dailymail.co.uk. What are your thoughts on Tiger Woods making the Ryder Cup team? Do you think his record is such that his recent poor form should not be an issue, or maybe you think he should prove himself just like any other player? We’d really like to hear your views on this so please do send in your comments.
