Barclays Golf 2010: Tiger Woods joint top of leaderboard
Yesterday we brought you some news and tee times for the first round of The Barclays 2010 golf tournament which began today at the Ridgewood Country Club, Paramus, N.J. In our article we told how Jim Furyk had been disqualified from the Barclays because he overslept, and also noted that Tiger Woods would be playing his first tournament since his divorce was finalized.
It’s no secret that Woods’ form has been poor in recent months since his return to golf from his self-imposed hiatus and we commented that it would be understandable if his performance in The Barclays didn’t improve given the circumstances, but we’re glad we got it wrong. The leaderboard as it stands at the moment with around half of the players concluding their first rounds, sees Tiger Woods tied at T1 alongside fellow American, Vaughn Taylor, according to pgatour.com.
The last few weeks have seen Woods lose his automatic qualifying place for the U.S. Ryder Cup team and he now has to rely on Captain, Corey Pavin, to pick him for the team but Woods showed today that he definitely still has it and when he needed it most scored a 6-under par first round of 65. Something inside him seemed more fired up today and his stunning first round included 1 bogey and 7 birdies, according to Emily Kay on Examiner.com.
Joint third place on the leaderboard sees Ryan Palmer and Brian Gay, both on 5-under and if you want to take a look at the full leaderboard as it stands go to pgatour.com. If you don’t want to miss any of the coverage on TV then see here for the TV schedule and details of online live video coverage. We’ll also be giving you the details of tee times for the second round tomorrow so check back with us later. What do you think of Woods’ performance today? We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on this so do send in your comments.
