L.A. Dodgers lose Blake DeWitt to gain Lilly and Theriot

It’s all change at the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Chicago Cubs as today Blake DeWitt found he was losing his place at the Dodgers and on his way to Chicago, in an trade for left-hander Ted Lilley and Ryan Theriot, infielder. Minor-league pitchers Kyle Smit and Brett Wallach are also going to the Cubs from the Dodgers.
DeWitt had been a part of the Dodgers since 2004 and said, “This is the first time something like this has ever happened to me,” but graciously added, “I appreciate the opportunity I had here,” according to Tony Jackson on ESPN. Ned Colletti, general manager of the Dodgers said in a press release, “”Of all the times I’ve had to tell a player he was traded, this was one of the toughest telling Blake DeWitt. His professionalism, his passion and who he is made doing this one of the toughest moves I’ve made.”
Ryan Theriot now looks set to become primary second baseman at the Dodgers in place of DeWitt and the thinking behind the move is that Theriot will provide more versatility. Colletti also explained that Ted Lilley would help to improve the team’s rotation.
