2011 Ford Explorer: Facebook reveal plus VIDEO

In an article earlier today we gave you a preview of the 2011 Ford Explorer before it’s unveiling on Facebook. We gave you many details about the new Explorer and how Ford has taken the unusual step for them, of using social media to build up interest in their latest product.

At 7:40 am a video was officially posted on the Ford Explorer Facebook page showing the vehicle properly in all its glory. There are chats planned all day for the Ford Explorer and Ford’s President and CEO, Alan Mullaly, also unveiled the vehicle on NBC’s “Today” program and also talked about it on CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” where he called it, “a reinvention of the most popular SUV in the world,” according to Brent Snavely on Freep.com.

The publicity drive continues all day with Ford holding events in cities across the U.S. including New York, Chicago, Venice Beach and more. The move to make the big unveiling on Facebook was because Ford recognized the opportunity of making a huge impact with social media rather than just the automotive industry, according to Jim Farley, group vice president of marketing for Ford. After all Facebook now has over 500 million users so even a fraction of those would give them huge exposure.

Hence “Explorer Day,” as Farley called it. For more on this go to freep.com. To watch the video of the reveal see below thsi story. What do you think about Ford’s reveal on Facebook today, rather than the customary auto show display? We’d be interested to hear your comments about this.
