Bed Bugs in NYC Stores: Extermination companies boom
We have a rather unusual story to bring you right now, as it appears there have been reports of bed bugs at a New York City mall on the East Side. The creepy-crawlies are known for being in the bedroom, but turning up at a Victoria’s Secret store appears to be something new.
As reported by wlwt.com, one shopper, Catherine Kauffmann, said: “That’s really gross. It makes me not want to go in as much.” At the time of writing, the New York retailers who have been bugged by these horrible parasites include Hollister, and Abercrombie and Fitch.
Local exterminators say that this is just the beginning. Permakil Pest Control worker Ray Hardeback said: “Any business – siding companies – you wouldn’t think it but they do. Restaurants, furniture stores, hospitals, doctor’s offices, what else? Name something and they could have bed bugs.”
Hardeback then went on to say that it’s not the merchant’s fault, but rather the people’s fault. He said that the shoppers unknowingly bring the parasites into the store on their clothes. The New York store said that extermination had taken place, and that it was reopening.
It may not be good for the stores, but at least it’s keeping the extermination companies in business. Hardeback said that people should inspect their purchases very carefully. Some stores are going as far as clearing the shelves of all the clothes that people have previously tried on.
