Major flooding in Japan leads to mass evacuation of 170,000

There is news today of drastic weather conditions affecting Japan leading to severe flooding and the mass evacuation of 170,000 people. The rains have already killed one person so far but at least three more are missing.

Flood warnings are in place but the heavy rains have also caused landslides in places such as Kyushu Island, according to an Agence France-Press report on the Hindustan Times. The landslides have led to injuries and the rainfall measured 4 inches within one hour.

A 77-year-old woman was one of those killed and found in a river in Hiroshima prefecture and one of the three people still missing is an 82-year-old man in the Shimane prefecture. Many train passengers became stranded after the bullet trains were suspended, according to the West Japan Railway Co. Some local trains and expressways were also impacted.
