HTC EVO 4G Shortages: Droid X Gain

Two of the best Android smartphones – Verizon Wireless’ Droid Incredible and Sprint’s EVO 4G – are currently having a bit of a supply shortage problem. But the lack of existing HTC-built smartphones, will probably be Motorola’s gain, as it launches its Droid X this week.

According to a report at pcworld.com by Jared Newman, Verizon’s website originally listed the shipping for the Droid Incredible, as July 14th. However, the website now says that the phone won’t be shipping until August 9th. And Sprint hasn’t even listed a ship date for the HTC EVO 4G.

The current supply shortages for HTC’s Android phones, has paved the way for Motorola’s Droid X which launches this Thursday on Verizon. But that’s not to say that getting a Droid X handset will be easy. Best Buy is not guaranteeing day one availability, even for pre-orders.

HTC are said to have confirmed its supply problems to the Wall Street Journal recently, and are now scrambling to find a solution to the problem. The company is working with Sony for displays on its next phone, but that doesn’t help the people who are waiting for a Droid Incredible or EVO 4G.

The popularity of the Android phones is amazing. With all of the problems AT&T and Apple are having with the iphone 4 they may start seeing a lot of their customers jumping ship to Android. If the Droid X lives up to it’s billing I think it will be really bad news for Apple, and especially AT&T, who needs the iphone to survive..

I love HTC Evo 4G, but I have been a longest time owner of a samsung omnia, and am planning on buying the Droid X in 2 months when I have an upgrade available. I would like to compile as much knowledge on this device as possible in advance. More than just the usual apps and ringtones. I wanna know how to jailbreak this smart phone and edit the registry if needed. Also I'd like to add HTC Sense UI if possible.

I officially can’t delay for this phone, just only two days left and I just wish I could get my hands on one,. I have been recently reading a lot about the Android 2.2 update which can come in August, simply another motive to be psyched about this great phone. Motorola and Verizon wireless say they will update the phone to Android 2.2 “late summer.” It will certainly be an over-the-air update. However out-of-the box on its July 15 launch it will have Android 2.1.

I have already been feeling a minor heat this early morning from some people not seeking to consider that the Droid X stock will be confined on release day, as we noted before. Well we’ve only grabbed 5 extra screenshots from 5 pretty significant markets as well as I’d point out again in which inventory appears to be pretty limited to me. Some associated with the major stores get upwards of 60 equipment, but some might simply have got a few units. Now perhaps these quantities tend to be preceding typical for a Verizon release, but for a device this huge, I think I simply figured retailers would have tried to have been overstocked.
