Motorola Droid to get Android OS 2.2 July 13, Droid X August
Good news today for all Motorola Droid fans as it seems the new operating system for Androids, Android 2.2, dubbed Froyo, is coming for the Droid at last (previous article here). An unconfirmed report from Verizon Wireless says that the upgrade will be available for the Motorola Droid on July 13.
An article by Clint Boulton on eweek.com, sourced from Brighthand, reports this, and also says that the new Motorola Droid X, to be launched on July 15 for $199 with a $100 rebate, will also receive OS 2.2 in August, according to DroidForums.net.
You may already know the features of Android 2.2 but the main benefits are drastic speed improvements over 2.1, along with WiFi hotspot enablement, tethering and a cloud-to-device messaging API. Google’s Nexus One has already officially received the upgrade and Sprint has pledged it will become available for the HTC Evo 4G.
