We brought you the news earlier today about the McDonalds Shrek glass recall because of fears of safety issues as traces of cadmium had been found in the painted characters (see here). The recall was ordered by the Consumer Product Safety Commission in conjunction with McDonalds as purely a precautionary measure. No injuries or ill-effects from the glasses have been reported so far.

Meanwhile over on The Baltimore Sun an article by Kate Shatzkin, also reports the recall and says people should return the $2 glasses to McDonalds for a refund. Another thing that may interest you is some of the reader’s comments on the site such as concerns about whether they should still return them if they are used purely for display purposes and others feeling it’s being over-precautionary and just not to let your kids drink out of them.

Another reader ‘Mark’ makes an interesting point when he says that people who have the glasses shouldn’t return them, but instead should sell them on eBay. He probably rightly says that they will now be highly collectable and will also be extremely rare and you could take the kids to Disneyland by selling their toys. That may be a controversial view and we can’t condone not going along with the recall, but we can’t help wondering about the stance he takes.
