Verizon iPhone 4G: Apple strikes back?

Verizon iPhone 4G: Apple strikes back?

For the past few years now the iPhone has been at the top of the mobile tree. Apple’s creation is arguably the most popular and widely used handset to date. But all of a sudden there is a new toy in town which is threatening to steal the iPhone’s crown.

Google have recently entered into the software market with their Android smartphones giving Apple another big rival to contend with. According to Pete Cashmore who has wrote an intriguing article on CNN.com, “Android phones have outsold iPhones in the first quarter of 2010″. This clearly shows that the new phones such as the Motorola Droid and the Droid Eris are exploding in popularity amongst technology fans and are certainly giving Apple a run for their money.

The news that the iPhone is starting to be outsold will not make happy reading for the people at Apple and with the new 4G announcement coming up within the next month they are going to want to shift their new product onto the market as soon as possible. And with the upcoming HTC Droid Incredible and HTV EVO 4G being prepared this will strengthen Android even more and thats when things will get interesting as this mobile war rages on.

There is talk of Apple allowing Verizon to sell their fourth generation iPhone which if true would immediately trigger at least 8 million units to be shifted, according to millions of Verizon customers who said they would buy the phone if offered it. Apple lost a huge amount of customers due to poor service from their exclusive partner, AT&T. But if Verizon are offered the iPhone many of these users may return.

So what do you think of the possibility of Verizon customers being offered the iPhone? Let us know your opinion.

I will hold out on getting a HTC Incredible, just in case Verizon actually gets the Iphone this year. If Verizon does not get the Iphone then I would get the Incredible rather than go with At&T. Even if the Iphone is a better phone, I would rather chose a phone that is not quite as good and have a far superior service provider.

I honestly don't know what to think anymore. I'm getting sick and tired of all of these rumors. I currently have the 3G and my contract is expiring soon. So to me it doesn't matter what carriers end up with the new phone. I just would soon like to know the complete facts. Hopefully at WWDC 10, they will tell which companies they are supplying through. Apple's contract with at&t still is valid from what i know, but there are rumors about contract conflict issues. So soon (June7-11) we will hopefully find out everything we need to know.

I don't think AT&T should have ever been allowed an exclusive contract. I have AT&T and I'm typing this on my iPhone which I love. I've had no trouble with at&t but isn't the problem of monopolies why ma bell was busted up years ago? I just don't believe it's truly free enterprise when this type of exclusive contracts are in place.

If Verizon gets the iPhone, sign me up. I’ll leave AT&T in a heartbeat.

I personally have been waiting and will wait until June 7th to see if Jobs will announce a partnership with Verizon. If he does not, then I will immediately order an Incredible. I think many people are in this boat and others will pay early termination fees to get a Verizon iPhone.

a year ago it would have been a big deal but with phones like evo and incredible that are just as good if not better that the next iphone, who cares!!! now i'm sure they will sell lots of them but owners of the other phones will not be impressed with something that will be just another good smart phone and not the best anything

I really doubt this will happen. Also, newsflash…the incredible is already out…

I would be much more inclined to purchase Apple mobile devices if they were supported by Verizon. The ATT&T exclusive arrangement for i pad has kept me from getting serious about that Apple product also.

iPhone is cool but I just don't like being limited by "the man" on what apps I can run on it. I actually had to jailbreak the phone to be able to do things that all other smart phones were able to do. It's the manufacture telling me what I can do with it that really steams me. Also, the Apple Care. Doesn't include damage like the other manufactures "insurance" plans. That really sucks! The iPad, on the other hand…holy crap. It's like Sony's MyFirstComputer. Limited and crippled compared to any laptop. Yet people are just caught up in the Apple marketing! Too funny!

AT&T just increase the penalty for early termination to $350 from $175. They might be anticipating a verizon iphone.

What people need to understand is that the reason ATT suffers greatly on service is that the iphone users all try to use the network. Which means service slows down or completely yields to work. Honestly, if Verizon gets the iphone it will suffer as well. People need to stop complaining and realize that everything that has to do with service is due to the massive amount of data and bandwidth the iphone requires to use. I've had ATT for 10 yrs and I have never had a problem. If 3G doesn't work use Edge. And stop being babies about it.

Smart choice, trust me. I have an iPhone with AT&T. Great phone, HORRIBLE service. It's really sad that I spend over $130 a month for such second-rate service.

In Washington DC, Verizon is the only carrier whose signal works on the underground metro. So it will be a really big deal in this area if Verizon gets the iphone – kill two birds with one stone. I am switching to Verizon (from T Mobile) as soon as my contract is up this summer, even if Verizon doesn’t have a contract with Apple, mainly for the strong signal.

I honestly don't think AT&T knew what they were getting into with the iphone. It was definitely beneficial to them. But at this point, i believe that if Verizon gets the Iphone, both service providers would benefit. Considering, and amount of usage decrease for AT&T is good. They will be able to work less on supporting a working service, and be able to focus on a better service. I can't wait for the day that 4G will be seamless throughout the countryside, and i wont have to deal with Edge 70% of the time when i travel.
