Severe weather warnings for Oklahoma in wake of tornadoes

Following the fatal outbreak of tornadoes in Oklahoma it seems there may be more to come as severe weather warnings are also in place for today (Wednesday). Just as people endeavour to clear up from the tornado devastation (see previous story), the National Weather Service are predicting severe thunderstorms.

It says that much of the Central Plains and Midwest could be affected and that storms are possible in Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri, as well as regions of Arkansas, Kentucky, Illinois and Indiana. In Oklahoma the Storm Prediction Centre, based in Norman are predicting vigorous thunderstorms during the last part of the afternoon and into the evening with more large hailstones, according to CNN.

In the previous storms that moved through Oklahoma the state Department of Emergency Management reported that two people were killed and more than 100 received injuries and after an aerial tour Gov. Brad Henry said, “I lost track of the number of damaged and destroyed homes that we saw.”

Gov. Henry went on to say he had spoken with Janet Napolitano, the Homeland Security Secretary, and that she had said that FEMA would act swiftly with federal aid.
