Apple iPad and iPhone 4G / 5G: Apple buying technology

Apple is on a technology spending spree with a purchase of a chip maker in the competition to have the fastest chips available. Intrinsity, a small Texan company, have a reputation for speedy chips for mobile devices, and was bought up by Apple last month.

Apple confirmed the buy on Tuesday and it’s yet more proof, not that it was needed, that Apple are keeping up their competitive edge in a bid to outdo its rivals. It’s apparent that Apple are prepared to spend to have the latest and quickest technology as it’s the second computer chip company bought by them in two years, according to nytimes.com.

Apple has declined to comment on the purchase price but industry experts estimated the price of Intrinsity to be around $121 million. The best chips will enable the fastest processor while at the same time using less energy. With the release of the iPad in February there was a lot of focus on the A4 chip which Apple affirmed had given the iPad its longer battery life and had made it faster and Intrinsity are the company that many speculated had provided the technology.
