Latest news on Mississippi tornado devastation

It appears that the tornado in Mississippi that killed at least 10 people, has claimed the lives of 3 children amongst its victims. In our earlier story we told you of the initial reports of the destruction that storms caused across Mississippi, but sadly there is now more news of the devastation caused in the region.

Among the tragedies were two sisters killed in a mobile home, aged only 9 and 14. The other child victim was a 3-month-old baby. Whole neighbourhoods have been affected by the tornado with the most damaged areas being Choctaw and Yazoo counties in Mississippi, according to a report on CNN.

Assessment crews and rescue teams continue to search the areas looking for any more victims of the tornado, consisting of National Guard troops and highway safety patrol troops. A moving story was told by Stacy Walker who sheltered in the hair salon where she works and related how glass and debris flew in cutting her. She finally made it out safe but later learned that a friend had died shielding her children.

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said that even outside the two worst-hit areas there were reports of 188 homes destroyed and 33 injuries. Many people stayed the night with friends or family while some went for protection to shelters in Yazoo City. For more on this story go to CNN.com.
