Verizon Nexus One and HTC Incredible: Scratching our heads

The CTIA 2010 has rounded-up and there were really 2 main issues from the event that left everybody talking. The first was the unveiling of the HTC EVO 4G handset from Sprint and the second was the big no show from Verizon.
Everybody had been convinced we would be seeing the reveal for the HTC Incredible or the Nexus One on Verizon, but when neither happened it left everybody rather baffled and looking for an answer. If Verizon had announced their next handset after the DROID, it would have rather stolen the thunder from the next iPhone expected to be released in the summer.
Verizon have disappointed an awful lot of people with their failure to seize the moment and it could really have damaged them as so many feel let down. Many may now feel tempted to go instead for the HTC EVO 4G or alternatively the Apple iPhone, before the Verizon HTC Incredible.
There’s still nothing in the air about when Verizon will release either of the two much-awaited handsets and ultimately this could backfire on them. Are you still prepared to wait for Verizon to wake up or will you be taking your allegiance elsewhere? Why not let us know?

Since there was no announcement I have stopped by both ATT and Sprint in the last 2 days checking my options for a 5 phone plan that has been on Verizon for years.
I need a new phone and a new contract but am tired of waiting. Good by Verizon
WTF Verizon!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????????
HEY Big Red….Big Blue is about to get my business. My contract is up and I am ready to move to a smarter phone.
this is ridiculous! i have been waiting for the nexus one for way TOO long! im going to push it for one more week…if there is nothing…iphone here i come verizon will loose a 8 year customer along with 4 lines! thats $180.00 less for them every month….whores….OR…i might get the droid wait out my 30 days pay restocking fee and by THEN HOPEFULLY the nexus one will come out…..hopefully….
sick of waiting
I need a new phone for work and have been faithfully holding out for a Verizon Nexus One or HTC Incredible. Inaction on Verizon's part is making me finally look elsewhere. **sigh** Big Red, I've been loyal for a long time, but you're letting me down…
Verizon is a poorly run company. They are still living in 2005.
I am so waiting. Yes, I love the iphone, but there is no way I am switching to AT&T's terrible coverage. What's the point in having the iphone if I can't use it as a phone!
Perhaps the best solution would be for Verizon to get the iphone. Duh?
I am absolutely one of the consumers that this article is referring to. My Verizon contract is up in less than two weeks and i am not sure where to turn. If Verizon had announced the incredible this past week then there would be no question but now sprint is looking really good and i might be able to live with my HTC touch pro till summer. The EVO 4G is obviously a superior device but it's all about timing. I'd be willing to settle for the HTC incredible if it were available now, but if Verizon waits much longer they might as well kiss me good bye as a customer.
going go check out the iphone
going go check out the iphone or just going with droid eris and mod it wit 2.1 rom
I never thought I would have a reason to leave Verizon, but their coverage may not be enough to keep them ahead of the pack any longer. They seem to be relying on their coverage to keep their customers, letting their competitors surpass them with smartphones. I think they will definitely lose customers over this; people are disappointed, frusterated and still looking for a decent phone!!
I have been waiting weeks for the Nexus One to come on board with Verizon. It's not happening and they seem not to care. I have switched my anticipation to the HTC Incredible which seems to fare no better with Verizon. Looks like ATT or Sprint. Verizon blew it, at least with me.
Who really disappointed the customers here, Not Verizon, Google or HTC. It's the media, I hope everyone takes what they read on the net w/ a grain of salt, the media is only good as their sources, and clearly their sources are useless. I don't recall Verizon, HTC or Google stating their phone is going to be release on this date. This is exactly like what happened w/ the supposed iPhone on Verizon, how Apple was going to announce the iPhone w/ the iPad. How about checking your sources before you post and getting everyone's hopes up.
Why doesnt this surprise me? Verizon is always years behind on phones and technology. If AT&T had better service I would have left Verizon long time ago. Looks like Sprint is starting to look like a better alternative. Let me guess… their probably going to let the next iphone fly them by also.
i have been patiently waiting for a date on either one of those two phones. i dont understand what the hold up is. i have been in the market for a new phone for a couple months now and i am getting impatient. i want to take my business over to verizon with the incredible but i dont know how much longer i am gonna be able to wait. MAKE A MOVE VERIZON
Have had Verizon for a long time due to lack of other options. They do have great coverage and the advantage in my area (South Dakota) is that most people have Verizon, so I can have a minimal minute plan. The obvious, terrible downside is that, with the exception of the Droid (and the Droid ONLY), they have the worst selection of handsets imaginable. ATT will soon be in this area, and I see mass defections to their superior speeds and handset offerings. Their failure at CTIA to show anything of substance further makes them a joke. I have five lines on a family share and I can't wait to get to a carrier who can offer 1. Good phones, 2. Better connections speeds, 3. Better prices.
I waited…and waited. I'll reconsider moving to another carrier.
If I don't hear anything by June with Verizon coming out with either one of the phones I am going to AT&T to get the iPhone….I'm tired of Verizon's lack of good phones being released and their reluctancy to keep their faithful customers informed
I am Soooooo disapointed with VZ… WTF.. I for one will leave VZ and go with sprint or at&t
While most companies are going with the "Customer First" programs, Verizon's new policy appears to be "Customer Last." I have been with the big red since '95, but this looks to be the end of that run. ATT&T should be thanking Verizon for their soon to be business boom!!!
Conspiracy Theory 1: Perhaps there are technical problems getting the HTC handsets to work well on the Verizon CDMA network.
Conspiracy Theory 2: Perhaps Apple 'splained it's position on it's multi-touch patents to Verizon and the lawyers are still churning. This would explain the delay in V2.1 for the DROID handset as well.
This is exactly how I feel. I spoke with VZW and they are very tight lipped. Great article. Thank you.
I'm not going to wait anymore. My contract is set to expire in two weeks, and with no new info about a competitive phone from Verizon, I'm going straight to Sprint.
I've been with Verizon for over 12 years now but if there's no N1 or Incredible by the end of this month I'm going for the iphone or the Evo4g. I've had a Dare for almost 2 years now because there hasn't been a phone worth switching to.
Been with VZ for over 10 years and have waited for a couple of months for VZ to announce a new android phone. while they have not lie to the customers about when the new handsets will be coming out, their lack of urgency in addressing the desires of their customers has turned me off. Looking into another carriers as I write this.
I'm in the same boat with you guys. I have a 5 line plan with data on a couple phones, and I've been waiting and waiting for just a *hint* of when the N1 or Incredible will be released. If they just made a statement saying "We'll release them in 2 months", I'd be happy.
Sitting around online checking websites for less than useful information about Verizon's upcoming phones has just been a waste of time. The gentlemen talking about the media is right though, Verizon/Google/HTC never said anything, it was people's assumptions that made it this bad. That doesn't mean Verizon shouldn't mention something about these phones though. A lot of customers want to spend money, why wouldn't they give just a little information about the phones?
recommending moto devour to the customers who are asking about the HTC incredible just shows how little they understand their customers. Sprint….. please set aside a 4 line plan for me. i'll be joining you in less than a month
WTF!!!!!!! is right!!!!!——–Verizon would be unstoppable if they could combine their network with a quality device selection. If you can't get the phone you want you are not going to give a shit how good your network is. All you have to do is read all talk around the web to realize what a huge mistake Verizon is making. Just seems like another case of a bunch of executive a-holes who are too worried about their bonus's to actually do what they are paid for. Being in touch with their customers needs is obviously out of the question! Seems like a classic case egomania run wild to me. Sprint, AT&T if you are listening this is a great opportunity to steal a whole lot of new customers…At this rate I just might be one of them.
My contract was up last week and I almost pulled the trigger on a Droid Eris until I got educated about the old 1.5 op system that will be outdated with no new apps soon enough. So figured I would wait when I heard the Incredible and Nexus specs. That is what I want for the next 2 years! Now Verizon does nothing announcing these things?? Clerks at their stores are absolutely in the dark as we all know more than them!! I have been in 3 diff stores in the past week and they looked at me like I had three heads when I talked about the Incredible. Nobody there has even heard of it!! LOL But Verizon is now gonna finally start losing real customers. People want the latest and greatest. I could settle for a Moto Droid, but I don't like the bulky heavy set and no use for a slide out keyboard. But that is their top of the line product right now. Like I said, the Eris is already outdated and what does Verizon release this week? The Moto Devour???? Another slideout keyboard and also running an outdated op system already w 1.6!!!! And the Devours specs are nothing to get excited about!! By the next contract that thing will be long forgotten. I do not understand what Verizon is doing. I have been a loyal customer for over 10 years and I am going to start looking elsewhere and playing the field with these other networks. So stupid because Verizon does have the best coverage but that is not the entire total picture these days either as long as you can get coverage in your main areas you are in. Wake the F up Verizon and give us what we want!! Let us choose between a Nexus One and an HTC Incredible or maybe an unlocked iPhone. C'mon already!! Enough with all these run of the mill middling "smart"phones you currently offer on your website.
I kinda agree, however if it were true they would be trying to announce some kind of apology to their loyal customers… By the look of comments to this article there are a lot of loyal customers who are planning to switch because of the delay… Honestly when it comes down to it the fact that they have not released any information on either phone and are making customers wait is just bad customer service… By the time the phones are out everyone will have switched to AT&T or Sprint…. Keeping this up won't keep them up top that is for sure…
I have an iphone with ATT and was going to switch to Verizon for the nexus one… oh well.

I second both of those theories. The possibility is there, and we don't know what is going in the legal battle between Apple, HTC, RIM and Motorola. But the is sure can have an influence on the whether Verizon and Google can release the Nexus One. All these claims about a release date are hearsay, no official announcement has been made by either company. People begin to believe these claims because that is all they have to work with. And it begins to spread like wildfire. Being a Verizon customer for 7 years, the primary reason why I continue to stay with them is the coverage and reliability. The plans are typically higher but you get what you pay for. But why buy a "superphone" only to use it on a sub par network?
Yep, certainly disappointed. I really expected at least one of those phones to be out this month. The only thing keeping me on verizon at the moment is the fact that I'll be out of the country for most of April. If things haven't changed by the time I get back… I'm going to make things change and heavily consider the iphone.
Just spoke with a Verizon rep about a billing issue. He asked if there was anything else he could help me with, and I asked about the launch date for the Nexus One. He said he couldn't give me any information OTHER THAN their official statement said Spring 2010.
Same deal, fairly happy Verizon customer for years, contract ended in Dec 09, waiting, waiting for Incredible or Nexus. I tried the Droid for a week or so, good guts in it but size is too bulky (the hard keypad is worthless, virtual keypad is fine), why carry the extra weight/size? HTC Incred would be perfect. One more thing, the Android software is very cool, however, the home page interface is not great. Any message, voicemail notifications are in a tiny black bar at the top of the device that you have to drag down with your fingernail (terrible). That's why I've been waiting for HTC's great interface to sit on top of the Android software. Has large colors icons (like the iPhone), they indicate, ex, 6 voicemails, 12 emails, 7 texts, etc. Amazingly, no great Android app out there to accomplish this. I'm either waiting for this HTC or jumping to Spring for their HTC EVO 4G.
As with several others, I have to travel a bit and coverage is a HUGE concern for me. My wife's parents live out in the cornfields so when we go to visit I need Verizon, no other carrier works. I've been using Verizon for about 12 years or so. I'd like to get rid of my BB and try an Android based phone. I'll just keep using the boring BB while I wait for either the Incredible or NexusOne.
My contract with Verizon expires in May. If the Nexus One or HTC Incredible does not arrive by then, I will be switching to AT&T for an iPhone.
<sarcasm> I bet you will be greatly missed </sarcasm>
I am sick to my stomach, this is the 2nd time this year (Apple Convention/CTIA) they were hyping up a new phone for Verizon, what a complete joke. I am about to screw my friends and family over and go to another network to satisfy my needs first, a better phone!
Wake up Verizon, don't you see whats happening. The money is in smartphones, get with it.
Long time Verizon customer with four lines. My contract is up on March 28th. I planned to go for Nexus One or better yet, HTC Incredible. Very disappointed with Verizon's lack of a new reveal at CTIA this week and thinking that good coverage is not reason enough to stay with a company that can't successfully follow through with anticipated release of phones. Also, even though the Motorola Droid and Droid Eris were supposed to drop in price this week, at our store they are still the same price as always.
I bought an ipod touch since I figured I would be with Verizon and never get an iphone…. it sure is nice. I am tempted to go check out an iphone or wait for Sprint's new phone and go with them.
Verizon blew it!!
My contracts been up since Nov of last year and I've been waiting and waiting. 10 yr customer w/ 5 lines, I'm going to start looking elsewhere.

Every VZW customer that is waiting for one of these phones needs to grab their current phone and dial *611 and complain to customer service. If they get enough complaints about lack of info on these phones then maybe they will pull their heads out of their azz and make an announcement!
I have been a VZW customer for 9 yrs now and my current contract just ran out 3/1/10. My current Razr needs to be replaced ASAP because I can only make phone calls on speaker phone! The ear piece on the phone does not work anymore but right now VZW’s phone lineup is terrible! They don’t even have the Razr anymore! The DROID is nice but the hardware QUERTY is worthless unless you have Smurf hands so I’m not interested in getting a phone with the extra thickness of a hardware keyboard! The DROID Eris is lame because it has a small screen and a version of Android that is already 3 or 4 versions old! I was trying to hold out for the HTC Incredible but I’m about done waiting!
I agree with many here. The wait has now gone to long. The droid is not a phone of the future. Nice first offer but not beyond that. Verizon has always been the worst and I mean absolute worst at offering good high end variety in phones. I been with them 10 years and grit my teeth of two since they offer terrible phones compared to the iphone or other providers. This was their opportunity to show they don't sit on their golden complacent thrones thinking they are untouchable. They are not untouchable and they have waited too long to become an innovative company versus a complacent one. Moving on…..
Since EVO is available until summer, I will stick with my BB until then. If VZ hasn't announced something by then I will consider switching but I am more hesitant than others to go with Sprint on a new network and a new phone. Seems a recipe for disaster. Disappointed in Bid Red but I will give them a few more months. I think it is a race between the next generation iphone and the incredible. Whichever is released first is where I will head but my preference is to stay with VZ's network.
Yep, been waiting for months for the N1 to come to Verizon. Contract runs up in 2 months, If no N1 on Verizon by then, hello AT&T Iphone.
I am still awaiting one of those two phones to come out. To me, Verizon has the strongest network. I think that is more important. Why have a nice fancy phone when it doenst work half the time? I rather wait for a gem then switch to a polished turd.
As excited as I was getting with the "rumors" of the Nexus One and Incredible being released in the next couple of weeks, that's all they were….Rumors. I do not recall reading anywhere where Verizon, Google, or HTC made an official announcement that either phone was being released so soon. The media started all the hype, so I can't blame Verizon. I've been a satisfied customer for years and even though my contract is up and I can upgrade to a new phone, I'm not in that big of a rush. My Dare is doing just fine to get me by until the Nexus One and Incredible are released. Then I can wait a little longer to see the reviews on how well the two phones work with Verizon. We shall see.
well, I'm sure not going to get an iPhone, but if I have to wait until summer I might just decide to jump the verizon ship and go get me an EVO – that thing is siiicck.
I'm in the same position as others, contract is up and have been waiting for a top-shelf product to carry for next 2years. We wouldn't have to speculate if Verizon would address the concerns of the community and offer up some information about handsets. This delay is a sign of their commitment to smartphones going forward. Either you want to be a player or you don't. For me they have 30 days, that will be 6 months after the Droid launched, if nothing by then I'll be getting an iphone.
Has everyone gone nuts! Big red just put out all the droid phones which are all better than the I phone or anything on sprint. Everyone is complaining they have been waiting forever, cry me a river. The nexus 1 was just released in january, and google said they would release it on Verizon in spring and spring just started.the Incredible was announced shortly after the nexus 1, so no one has been waiting that long. By the time any other carrier comes out with a phone thats on par with those two phones Verizon will probably have those phones out.
I have waited too long for answers, 8yr customer. too much bs for me. they are already losing customers. sometimes change is good. no n1 and no htc incred.
You people are ridiculous. I don't recall HTC, Google, or Verizon giving an official release date for these phones. I'm disappointed the phone's not out now but until I get an official word I'm taking every thing blogs say with a grain of salt. All of this anger and attitude is silly. Let's say it one more time: VERIZON HAS NOT CONFIRMED THE EXISTENCE OF THE HTC INCREDIBLE! Until they do, don't expect the blogs to get it right. It probably will be in stores in 2 weeks, but it may not be for sale for another 2.
Think about it people A multi-million dollar company putting their heads on the chopping block with a new equipment that promisses to be state of the art with no idea what the glitches there might be. Its great to be the first to have new technology because you pull alot of people who arent loyal and true to thier company. So then what happens these great new phones starts to get its true testing in the real world and then the flaws are realy starting to show from extreem usage or unpredictable network conditions. So now Mr exclusive has a phone that gets on his llast nerve and returns it the company looses big time if the phone upsets people enough to switch to a different carier or the cariers 3G network is already overloaded that it can not handle the data load. Now thier network crashes and all those beautiful apps are not working exactly the way you want them to. forget the speed of the phone if the network does not work all you have is a phone book with a camera and games. Jump the gun and frustrate yourself only to realise that maybe just maybe you should have stuck to the carier who waited to see what glitches there would be and re-inforce their infrastructure to aleviate those problems. So in the end the loyal people get a phone that works and the flakes get stuck in a port back situation or stuck in a frustrating situation for two years. To those who prefer quality over exclusivity first generations when it comes to technology is never the best especially when they will always come out with something better.
I strolled the mall about two weeks ago and since I have been eating up any information I can get on the Incredible, I was struck with excitement when I saw a Verizon Store. I wondered if they would have any information and figured the worse thing that could happen would be an awkward look and "no" response. Well I asked the women, and she said she didn't have any information about it. Not surprised I continued the conversation about all my internet findings (aka speculation) and she said usually with those claims of release dates, release occurs about 4 or 5 months later. I was crushed at first, but then she went on to say that the lawsuit with Apple has also slowed the progression of any phones release. Now I think she has no idea what she's talking about for two reasons: 1. Verizon themselves stated the release would be "Spring 2010." Not 4 or 5 months which would take us into Fall. 2. In my mind, the lawsuit has no bearing on release dates because HTC/google is still releasing new phones elsewhere, i.e. Sprint.
And yes, I'm up for my new every two in mid May and would love to make the incredible my new phone. I'm even willing to increase my month to month payment for the phone. This would be my first smartphone because I have been stuck with an LG Dare since Fall 2008. I'm over it! With the original speculative release date of March/April I was seriously considering just doing the annual upgrade and forking out an extra $20. Now with the delay and lack of any new information I may be forced to wait. If I have to wait any longer than May, my contract is up a couple months after and I have already entertained the idea of going to a cheaper network since I don't talk on the phone a lot. Coverage isn't that much of a deal breaker. Hope Verizon gets some motivation in at least announcing when the phone will be out. Spring 2010 isn't cutting it anymore since, well, it's spring. Can we get a month at least? Even a two month window? I'll take May/June…even, begrudgingly, June/July.
Wannabe Smartphone Owner
I have been a Verizon customer for 6+ years. Until now, I never considered leaving them. Their phone selection is pathetic. They have become consistently yrs behind the competition. We should all consider emailing Verizon and letting them know, THEY SUCK!!!
I've been waiting on the Incredible (Passion / Dragon / Bravo / whatever) since before the Nexus 1 was announced… I'm tired of waiting on JUST NEWS! ANY news would probably change my mind… but right now Sprint is looking pretty darn attractive. I'm TIRED of waiting on a top-of-the-line phone from VZW. And no, Verizon, I am NOT interested in the MOTO Devour… it is ALREADY outdated.
I'm tired of waiting for VZ. We're a Verizon family but my wife is getting her employer to pay for an iPhone. If ATT's service is good in our area I'll be leaving for greener pastures when my contract is up. Good luck hanging on to market share Verizon!
Well if Verizon is going to take this long, I hope the Nexus One and Incredible come out as global phones with both CDMA and Quad Band GSM / 3G UMTS. The technology is simple enough and it doesn't make sense that you can't use these phones when you travel to Europe or Asia.
no at&t sucks i had the iphone and then switched to verizon only 3 months after i started with at&t. i get way more 3g coverage now than i did with the iphone on at&t. the iphone should be re-released to verizon end of story
Verizon, Sprint and ATT all work fine where I spend 95% of my time. About 4% of the time it's hit/miss w/ Sprint and ATT and < 1% of my time is where it's Verizon or nothing. My 4 phone family plan has been up for about 2 months now and I'm quite frankly tired of waiting on Verizon to announce what I would consider an acceptable phone to lock in for two years. I'll be studying up on the next iPhone offering and ascertaining the release date for the Sprint EVO. First one out of the block with some phones we can live with for 2 years gets my business. Wake up Verizon. What good is a speedy fast and smooth highway if you only let little electric golf cards drive on it?
I'm researching AT&T and Sprint…3 phones for 200/month….i'm transitioning…you don't treat a 9 year customer this way……my $'s will speak.
Yes,we all understand that our info on the htc incredible was from leaks and rumors. And I understand that Verizon has a game plan and that, right now, they are stcking to their game plan. But since the video hit the web showing the incredible with the Verizon boot screen, they should have changed their plan to go ahead and announce the dang'd phone. Sprint really stole the thunder this spring. I have a a really good employee plan with Verizon and with Google.com/phone showing the the nexus one will be with Verizon will come out spring of 2010 and it being spring, u can only guess that its gonna be at the end of spring and sprint doesn't hesitate to announce their news, this all just makes me want to turn my back on my company just as they have turned their back to its customers. Bottom line, WE WANT A 1GHZ SMARTPHONE NOW! Or at least an effing word about it. It is true Verizon needs to get with the times and open up their lines of communication.
Not happy. I want the Nexus One and I want it now, Verizon. I have an old LG flip phone, replaced twice already. I am a MAC user and the iPhone is looking better each day that passes. Either introduce soon or bye-bye.
Been on verizon for something like 15 years (went without a cell a few times). I’ve oft considered switching due to the inferior quality of vz’s phone selection, but always changed my mind after speaking with people contracted to other carriers (generally terrible coverage). That said, (& other than with respect to AT&T) I haven’t been hearing such complaints recently from people in my area. If I can find a carrier that can reliably cover my house and business and simultaneously offer me the hardware I require, then verizon, you’re fired!
No matter I will wait for the Icredible. My friends have Sprint, my daughter has T Mobile, I have Verizon and they are always using my phone. Even in an AT & T store my girlfriend couldn't get a signal for her I Phone she had to use my phone. So I am definitely not going to leave Verizon. I have never had a problem getting a signal or losing a call.
Is it possible that the HTC Eris is so good that Verizon doesn't see a need to replace it? Or is the Incredible (which is really similar to the Nexus 1, right?) a significant upgrade? I'm overdue for a free upgrade and like the Eris a lot, but don't want to get it now if the next thing really is that much better. Maybe I just have low smart phone standards but the Eris seems pretty slick.
So if the Incredible is announced, how long will it be before it's actually available to buy? I'm not blessed with patience. Anyone think the Moto Droid is a good buy?
My contract has been up since August and have been waiting for the Nexus One or Incredible. I have been with Verizon since 1994 over 15 years and this is the 1st that I have checked AT@T, Sprint, Alltel, and T-Mobile out. Verizon better wake up because they have about 3 weeks for me. There is 4 phones on my plan.
Angela and Jim, both the Eris and Droid are good, but I think you'll be kicking yourselves once you see the Incredible. Of course, if it is released during your return period, you could go back to Verizon and swap for it.
If you rely on your wireless phone, and you live in a major market (New York, LA, Chicago, San Francisco, etc.) avoid AT&T at all costs. Without exception, every iPhone user that I have encountered that relies on their iPhone as a business tool has the same feedback – the network is pretty bad, with most (myself included) commenting that it's horrible. I have yet to go through a single day without multiple dropped calls and failed call attempts. This is no exaggeration, if anything it's an understatement.
If Verizon does not introduce the Nexus One soon, I will find another option on their network. Bottom line: A smart PHONE is not a superior device if it operates on an inferior network. "Fastest 3G network" where? In a lab? Or maybe when you can find a signal and hold on to it.
yes, i think the droid is a very good buy – on ebay. this is a bit of a culture shock for me. i wonder what us everyone in a hurry for anyhow, some things, like wine, are better appreciated with more time. where is this technology leading us? what are we all becoming? big brother now knows where everyone butt is 24/7 – people are walking around psychological absent of their immediate surroundings more and more. more textual infidelity. did anyone see the matrix? btw, the devour looks like a nexus killer… haha, i’m starting to pick up on the matrix lingo fast. that songs, i think i am turning japanese, now i comes to mind. does anyone care if a product is made in america anymore? the next phone name i think should be called “the black hole”. it’s up for grabs, with motorola giving the first right of refusal. just give me a bit of credit in the future, i’ve been shy before to claim my 10 minutes of fame.
meh, I've been waiting for a few months to upgrade. I am making a long overdue jump from a messaging phone to a smartphone, and I can't believe that VZW hasn't released any new high end phones since the driod in november. I was really hoping to hear something at CTIA about the nexus or incredible. VZW does have a history of being slow to release handsets. I am getting tired of it, but their coverage is too good, and everyone I know has vzw, so I can't jump ship. I am hesitant to pull the trigger on a droid as it is already 5 months old and handset tech has progressed. we'll see
I went yesterday and ended my Verizon contract and returned to my iPhone. This way I can either get the HTC Evo with Sprint who has a better contract for the price anyway or await the iPhone 4G announcement. Either way Verizon lost my business and BTW I had the Droid, not as wonderful as the commercial makes it seem. So, if they are relying on that phone to carry them they might as well just close up shop. The only thing Verizon has going for them is their commercials.
Verizon is NOT the worst in offering new phones. US Cellular is. I am stuck with US Cellular because until now they have been the only carrier that works in rural areas where I work. Now it seems Verizon will work there but they won't release any new phones either. I desperately watch to switch to an upgraded phone and US Cell offers their best phone as the TP2. Yeah, a 2 year old phone for them is their top of the line.
My theory is VZW knows the boom in sales they will see when the N1/Incredible hit and their network can't handle the added data flow. AT&T may suck for coverage but their data rates are better if you happen to be in one of the three places it will work.
I think we will see VZWs network come crashing down when everyone gets an N1/Inc in their hands.

Hi,
Are you all insane?
I am flabergasted that so many of you
1) are so easily biased in this article's silly premise
2) many of you are waiting for this Nexus One on Verizon as if it was Christmas morning and you were 8 year old.
Verizon and Google have said that the Nexus One would be on Verizon in Spring 2010… and spring 2010 ends in JUNE!
Grow-up people!
There are 2 way to make decision about a new device:
1) if you are rich, you spend on every new device until one satisfies you… if ever… the new shiny object may be too tempting.
2) if you are not so rich (like me) you wait until your rich friends (or shiny object seekers) get a device to try it out and get their feedbacks…
Anyway I cut it, I NEVER spend good money on a device the day or week of its availability… I got my first iPhone in August 2008…
Cheers
Jocelyn
Doesn't make sense to jump ship to a company with really cool phones, but really crappy coverage, especially up there in the boondocks and all!
….but you'll have a lot of fun with those apps! LOL!
I agree!
I, for one am not switching to any new carrier! I love Big Red and have no plans to switch, not even for the fanciest of new phones! Sure, they may have the cool phone with the cool apps, but little to no coverage to make calls!
I left sprint 4 years ago because they never seems to have good phones when I wanted them, and now Verizon is doing the same thing. My contract is up, and AT&T works just as good in TN as Verizon. I am thinking it is time to jump ship yet again. It is a shame that the largest provider can't get at least 1 of the top 5 phones currently available.
My contract is up in August with Verizon. On September first I will have either an IPhone with ATT or teh new Verizon iPhone . I won't wait another day beyond that.
Nexus One is on AT&T too. go to google.com/phone
I have been eligible to upgrade since 3/22/10 (20 month mark of my contract) since I've been with Verizon so many years…unless they do this with everybody. My contract is officially over with on 7/22/10.
I want the Sense UI and Android OS 2.1 in his next phone for Verizon. is that too much to ask for? Why is Verizon's Nexus One (when it released on CDMA) not going to have the Sense UI? And where's the Incredible? No advertising…and heavy advertising on the Droid still is making me think it won't release until Sprint's EVO is released in the summer as well as Apple's new iPhone. Come on Big Red, don't disappoint.
Unfortunately, I have to wait. Verizon’s network is just too strong. All my friends with iphones even in major cities (Los Angeles primarily) are always cutting out, dropping calls, etc.
What the H*LL is wrong with you people? The phone will come, in fact pretty soon. But if you can't chill for another couple weeks then get a Droid. I can't wait to see this thing either, but for God's sake relax. They're not holding out on anyone they're just testing the device like any good company would.
Hang in there. I was in a Verizon store this weekend and I can confirm that they have the HTC Incredible in the stores. There are waiting to here from Verizon to give them the ok to sell it.
Screw the restocking fee. Get the droid for 30 days. Return it. (NOT exchange) then go get it again after 3 days. They won't like this but if you look at Verizon return policy you CAN do this. Went through 3 phones already waiting for the Incredible… haven't paid a restocking fee yet.
I'm thinking about leaving Verizon too. T-mobile already has the nexus one and I hear the service is really good. I'll wait a couple more weeks, but after that I might be gone. My contract has been up since February and I have known about the Nexus one so much longer than before that so I'm fed up with waiting!
I was told by Verizon customer service that the HTC Incredible would be out in April. I'm waiting until Thursday, April 1st. If I don't hear anything by then I am taking my 4 lines and headed to AT&T, I'm sad to go after almost 10 years with Verizon but this is ridiculous! They really need to start thinking of consumer needs/wants for their devices.
I want these phones as badly as other people, in fact I was available for an upgrade the end of last September. I decided to wait because I knew the Nexus one was coming to Verizon. Like other posters I have not heard of a launch date, only speculation dates from bloggers. Am I upset with VZW, HTC, Google. The quick answer is no, they have only said spring, spring is just beginning. Do I wish it would launch, absolutely!!! Am I going to switch if they don't meet my demands for a launch date, absolutely not!!! Get over yourselves and your phones, they will launch when they launch, and you saying that your going to take 2-4 lines away isn't going to sway them to hurry up. If you feel the need to change carriers, change, but I dare to ask the question, what good is a phone without the service to back it up?
Sprint $69.99 for everything is my bet….Evo 4G for me I guess!
Contract up in June, buying new Iphone, as most friends have it, not worried about coverage or ATT, Apple rules in innovation.
I picked Verizon's Doid Eris over ATT's iphone- and am happy with my decision.
Hello all. A 10-year Verizon customer here. I live in SoCal and tried the iPhone 3GS when it came out last year. I returned it after 2 days of use because AT&T service was so terrible. So everyone on this board living in California that is considering moving to AT&T from Verizon will regret it. Keep your Verizon plan and try it for 2 days around town. You will find out real fast.
In a year when Steve Jobbs will be salivating over Verizon's 4G LTE Network to put his new 4G Iphone on. Then, you people will switching back. Verizon is headed in the right direction. Stay on board. Avoid two year contracts, and pay $70 to sign a one year contract because a year from now it is going to be awesome to be with verizon.
Contract is up. tired of waiting…adios Verizon.
I HAVE BEEN WITH VERIZON 14 YEARS(BEFORE THEY WERE VERIZON) AND WHEN PEOPLE TALK ABOUT VERIZON PHONES THERE RIGHT ALMOST THE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL.BUT REMEMBER 75-80 PERCENT OF VERIZONS PHONES ARE BUY 1 GET 1-3 PHONES FREE.THIS IS WHAT KEEPS VERIZON ON TOP .THEY ARE A MIDDLE TO LOW CLASS PROVIDER.WE WILL NEVER GET THE BEST PHONES.2 MONTHS MY CONTRACT IS UP. GOODBYE
Verizon just just just don't get it. I have been with them for 20 years because of their coverage. But they don't care about the phones.
Hah. What I think is so funny is that all of you NEEEED the Incredible or the Nexus 1 SOOOOO bad, and you know they’re coming, but you’re going to go to a different carrier right before it comes out. You will feel like a turd when you end up going to sprint or at&t and sign a contract with them and then a month later one of the two phones or BOTH phones end up being released. That will teach you. Then you’ll be stuck with your crappy I-phone or palm that works in 4 places in the country. And if you’re doing it to spite vzw…. first off, do you think anyone who works at vzw cares AT ALL what you do with your measly 5 lines. LOL. Verizon has OVER 85 MILLION CUSTOMERS! 85 MILLION!!! Secondly, do you think anyone who works at vzw (who can change anything) is reading these forums? So please… take your measly 5 lines and have fun getting locked into a new 2 year contract with an inferior wireless company over having to wait another couple of months for a phone that you want soooo bad that will be out in no time. Well hasta luego pendejos! Have fun with your crappy iphones and palms and crappy coverage =D
Verizon's Droid Incredible will be available for pre-order on April 19th – in stores and in your hands April 29th. Hope that was soon enough for all of you who talked about "jumping ship"… If you really want a Nexus One, wait just a little longer for downgraded camera. That's up to you. Here's hoping some of the impatient children are still around when 'christmas morning' rolls around. Sheesh.
can you tell me please, what was the name before they were verizon. Thank you very much
