Windows Phone 7 Series: No Copy and Paste says Microsoft

Windows Phone 7 Series: No Copy and Paste says Microsoft

With all the hype regarding the Windows Phone 7 Series recently, Microsoft seem to have taken a step backwards by revealing and confirming that they will not be adding the ‘copy and paste’ functionality into their new offspring of Windows Phones.

It seems quite strange that a company such as Microsoft would not be adding this feature, but after numerous sources spoke to the tech giants, it seems as though they think that most users do not need the clipboard functionality which allows us to copy and paste text from one application to another. I beg to differ of course.

Proof of what they said can be found here, but if your like me and just want to get down to the nitty gritty, Microsoft basically said that the reasoning behind leaving out the clipboard functionality was that user research showed that people don’t actually use copy and paste that often. I don’t know what kind of research that was, but I am one of the many that do, and use it frequently.

Instead Microsoft say that they are implementing a systemwide data detection service which recognizes important information such as home and business address and phone numbers so that we can do things with them instead of using the copy and paste feature. But what about Microsoft Office and OneNote? Nope… Microsoft say that users only want to view and comment on documents, not move things from A to B.

So, surely they will implement the feature in later versions? …. No, we will not say Microsoft. Oh well, i’m guessing that third party applications will take it upon themselves to hack into the system and create an app that can be used by people like you and me that are one of the small minority (according to Microsoft) so we can copy and paste whatever we like.

Will you be buying the Windows Phone 7 Series?
