Yes, it’s finally here at last, St. Patrick’s Day 2010, March 17. While everybody is celebrating, feasting on corned beef and cabbage, drinking the black stuff and joining in the usual merriment of the day, we know that some of you will want to pick up some Irish sayings and quotes to make a special toast to your friends.

Here’s just a few to get you started then:-

“May the enemies of Ireland never eat bread nor drink whiskey, but be afflicted with itching without the benefit of scratching”. Ouch is all I can say to that one.

“You’ll never plow a field by turning it over in your mind”. I think this is one warning us not to think too much but get on with things.

Or how about, “Here’s to me and here’s to you. And here’s to love and laughter. I’ll be true as long as you. And not one moment after”. A warning if ever I heard one.

“The longest road out is the shortest road home”…self explanatory.

“If you’re lucky enough to be Irish, then you’re lucky enough”…self explanatory again.

Or maybe one of the best known is “A son is a son till he takes him a wife. A daughter is a daughter all of her life”.

Last but not least my personal favorite, “You’ve got to do your own growing, no matter how tall your father was”. This one I think is quite profound and one we could all learn from.
