Google Earth Street View Now Covers 95% of Britain’s homes

From today Google has extended its Street View in the UK to cover virtually every road. Around 95% of homes in the UK are now available to be gazed at with 360 degree pictures of almost every street the length and breadth of the country.
Previously Street View only covered major cities but this has now been massively extended in spite of some disapproval that it’s an invasion of privacy, or could be used to benefit burglars. Some of this criticism has been answered by Google with their inclusion of a ‘report a problem’ button, which will allow people to ask that images of themselves, their car, or their home are removed.
Some 210,000 extra miles of detailed mapping are now available meaning the extent to which the UK is covered is similar to that of the US and other European countries. The Google car fitted with a panoramic camera on its roof to take the images has become a common site on the streets of Britain and even some pedestrianised routes have become covered by a Google tricycle.
According to the Mail Online a recent poll disclosed that two thirds of people browsing Street View have got directions from it. A Google spokesman said, “People can check out a restaurant before arriving, make travel plans, arrange meeting points, get a helping hand with geography homework, or just get to know their town better”.
I for one can’t wait to have a good look (snoop) around and see more of the area where I live, and also to look at some places of interest I’ve never been to. What are you looking forward to seeing and why?
