Ron Paul speaks at the Newport Music Hall

A real coup was achieved by a student organization last night when they managed to get Ron Paul, Republican congressman and former presidential candidate, to speak at their campus. He was attending the Newport Music Hall to address the crowd and was expected to draw a large audience.
David Grabaskas, Young Americans for Liberty President, said that getting Ron Paul to the event felt like a real triumph for the group, who supported him throughout the 2008 presidential campaign. Although the group does not promote one particular individual now, and rather advocates general issues, as far as Grabaskas is concerned Paul does symbolize pretty much the ideal candidate.
After coming up with proposals back in December, to try to lure Paul to campus, they only became aware recently that he would indeed attend. The college student demographic has been shown to have the largest amount of support for Paul and because of its large Electoral College vote total, Ohio is one of the countries chief election states.
Although Young Americans for Liberty promote themselves as non-partisan, many of Paul’s libertarian beliefs concur with the group’s viewpoints. The only fly in the ointment is that because Paul will not tow party lines he seems unlikely to ever make higher office. For more on this story go to The Lantern. Do you think Ron Paul could ever overcome the system to become President, and would you want to see that?

I think Ron Paul could become President if people voted for whom they really wanted and ignored voices like that in this article assuring every voter that 'he could never win' (no offense.)
I would definitely want to see that.
spinnikerca,
Aww, what a sweet thought.
I agree.
For a nation that prides itself on its independence,
so many voters' brains are on the dependent side.
I would love to see Ron Paul as President. I think it's time we achieve some currency reform, because due to the Federal Reserve's existence, no matter what happens we have an overreaching overspending Federal Government that is running far beyond its Constitutional limits. It needs to stop, and I can't think of any other way for this to happen other than abolishing the Federal Reserve altogether. Why not introduce a concept of competing currencies and let people develop their own? This isn't about going back to the Gold standard of old (Paul knows there were problems from that one), but rather having a basket of different commodities that can be used as currencies, which allows flexibility, deters manipulation, drives healthy markets and creates an economy based on savings and investment instead of borrowing, debt spending and credit. It's a new concept that I feel deserves serious discussion.
