Ron Paul speaks at the Newport Music Hall
A real coup was achieved by a student organization last night when they managed to get Ron Paul, Republican congressman and former presidential candidate, to speak at their campus. He was attending the Newport Music Hall to address the crowd and was expected to draw a large audience.
David Grabaskas, Young Americans for Liberty President, said that getting Ron Paul to the event felt like a real triumph for the group, who supported him throughout the 2008 presidential campaign. Although the group does not promote one particular individual now, and rather advocates general issues, as far as Grabaskas is concerned Paul does symbolize pretty much the ideal candidate.
After coming up with proposals back in December, to try to lure Paul to campus, they only became aware recently that he would indeed attend. The college student demographic has been shown to have the largest amount of support for Paul and because of its large Electoral College vote total, Ohio is one of the countries chief election states.
Although Young Americans for Liberty promote themselves as non-partisan, many of Paul’s libertarian beliefs concur with the group’s viewpoints. The only fly in the ointment is that because Paul will not tow party lines he seems unlikely to ever make higher office. For more on this story go to The Lantern. Do you think Ron Paul could ever overcome the system to become President, and would you want to see that?
