Following our earlier story about Jon Venables being recalled to prison, comes news today that the details of the recall may yet be revealed. Jon Venables, one of the convicted killers of toddler James Bulger, had been released on licence under a new identity in 2001, but was recalled a week ago for breaching licence conditions.

Jack Straw, the Justice Secretary, had originally said the details of his recall would remain secret for fear of prejudicing any court hearing that may arise. However in a radio interview today he said he wanted to look at the information that was already out in public and “make a judgement about if there’s information – given that it’s already out in the newspapers – we can confirm”.

According to the guardian.co.uk, various reports have stated differing reasons for the recall, from serious sexual allegations, or fighting, to child pornography offences. It has also been revealed that he has told people of his true identity and has been drinking heavily and using drugs.

Denise Fergus, James Bulger’s mother, is due to meet Jack Straw to discuss her concerns, but on a television interview this morning she vented her anger at the situation and told how much it had affected her, saying it had been, “a massive blow”.
