Verizon iPhone In 2010: Less likely after Microsoft partnership

If you are one of the people that have been waiting for news on a Verizon iPhone in 2010, then you may just have to wait a lot longer. It is starting to look less likely now, with recent news of a Verizon Wireless and Microsoft partnership surfacing.

According to a report at businessweek.com, Verizon Wireless – the largest U.S. wireless carrier – will be introducing two new phones from Microsoft Corp. around about May or June this year, which be targeted at the teenage consumers.

Two people with knowledge of the companies’ plans – who have asked to be kept anonymous – have spoken about the plans. According to one of the people, the new models will have easy access to social networking sites, and include keyboards for text-messaging.

Meanwhile, the other person said that the phones will be made by Sharp Corp., and carry both the Microsoft and Verizon Wireless brands. Up until now, Microsoft has focused more on providing its mobile Windows software, rather than offering a model under its own brand.

Doesn't Verizon get it? They should be kissing Apple's backside and doing everything in their power to get the iPhone instead of trying to come up with an iPhone killer that is just not there or coming… Simple math… sell iPhone and instantly own the mobile market by a landslide or continue to compete. My 9 year old can see this as plain as day. Not sure what they are thinking… I am tired of waiting.

No kidding. As soon as they get the iPhone they will lose HTC. Who cares? The iphone is the best selling phone on the market because of the APPS. People love them! Especially if the Verizon iphone came with: Removable battery, External storage, and video chat. SIMPLE AS DAY. People would pay $300 easy (with new 2 year agreement)

Apple almost kissed the backside of verizon before going to AT&T. Guess what Verizon didn't like it so apple went to AT&T. So if Jobs want to sell more iphones he should try to kiss verizon again and I am pretty sure he will as Nexus1 is coming to verizon so either they kiss verizon's backside or equip i phone with something other than looks to compete with android phones.

If Verizon gets the NexusOne anytime soon I will be upgrading whether it's time or not. That being said, if Verizon had the iphone, I wouldn't get one.
I simply don't like Mac's lack of options. I like keeping a spare battery with me when I travel. I live at the Grand Canyon and when I hike down, I can't charge from the trail.
Also, Verizon is the ONLY company that gets constant 3G coverage out here at the Canyon. I won't be leaving them… well, ever.

I think Jobs realizes that VZ is too greedy to deal with, and has pretty much given up. I think he has talked with AT&T, telling them he will stay with them if they beef up their system to handle the iPhone, especially in the future with LTE. It looks like AT&T is getting the message. I am tired of hanging on to VZ and waiting for them to get the iPhone. As soon as the 4G iPhone comes out I will go to AT&T and get two of them, for my wife and me. Then we will be totally Apple and never look back. Take a hike VZ!

While I phone may be the best selling phone on the market may I remind you the RIM still holds over 40% of the market.

I jumped ship to AT&T today, after a year of trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear by convincing myself (and others) that my Verizon BlackBerry Storm was just as good as an iPhone. I haven't even had my iPhone for a full day, and it's already far exceeded my expectations. It doesn't even do it justice to say it's everything the Storm wasn't, because it's so far beyond the Storm in capability and reliability. I don't give a crap if Verizon has "better coverage" than AT&T because the iPhone works everywhere I need it to, and it's such a vastly superior product in every way to the BlackBerry Storm.

I talk to many people with the iPhone because I am highly considering switching to At&t just to get it. I have not had one complain yet, people love their phone and say the service isn't bad either. Looks like I will be a customer leaving verizon, who is tired of waiting, to get the iPhone ASAP…

If Verizon doesn’t get the 4G Iphone this Summer then I’m going to AT&T also. I’ll have to pay the $175 termination fee with Verizon, but I don’t care. I WANT AN IPHONE!

    Verizon isn't a GSM carrier

It's worth every penny of that $175

Only because AT&T has exclusivity with the iPhone. The tables would be turned otherwise. As a former BlackBerry user, let me tell you, there is absolutely no comparison. A BlackBerry to an iPhone is what a toy piano is to a Steinway grand.

All of you out there considering dumping Verizon to get an iPhone, just do it. I didn't want to pay my $110 termination fee either, but after only two days, I can tell you it was worth every penny (especially if you're a Mac user, not a Mac hater like Elaine). I'm convinced Verizon's never going to get the iPhone, and their two "iPhone killers," the BlackBerry Storm and the Droid…it's kind of sad. It would be like someone in a Kia trying to keep up with someone in a Porsche. I'm sure there are many Verizon apologists willing to argue with what I have to say, but hey, don't take my word for it. Go and try it for yourself. It's so far beyond anything else on the market today. Or, you can wait for those oh so cool Microsoft phones to come out LOL!

Good for you. Every company needs its apologists! I had to do the same for Apple in the late 1990s :)

I will never own anything made by Microsoft at my own free will. They screw everything up! I remember when they took over Comcast and my on demand went from being super nice and user friendly to a HUGE confusing mess of a nightmare! Their computers are crap compared to Apple. I'm sure their phones will be crap compared to the iphone. I will NEVER leave Verizon, there coverage where I live far exceeds any other carrier. I want an iphone for verizon as bad as anyone. The blackberry storm DOES NOT compare and never will. However, it's better than AT&T!!!!
