Apple confirms iPad release date for April

The eagerly awaited Apple iPad, will now be available in the UK in April, Apple have confirmed. The launch date is slightly later than planned with analysts hinting at “manufacturing problems” being the reason for the delay.

Buyers in the UK will be able to purchase the Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi and 3G versions, both in late April. However consumers in the US will be able to buy Wi-Fi only from April 3, with Wi-Fi and 3G version again, in late April. US buyers will also be able to pre-order online or in-store from March 12.

The iPad which has a 10in touch-screen has a multitude of uses, from browsing the web and watching movies, to listening to music and downloading apps. Apple’s chief executive Steve Jobs said, “The iPad is something completely new. We’re excited for customers to get their hands on this magical and revolutionary product”.

The entry-level price for the range of devices will be $499 in the US. Prices for the UK market have not yet been announced but the Wi-Fi only 16GB version is anticipated to cost in the region of £389 when it eventually goes on sale in the UK.
