Vivaldi: Ten pieces of trivia on the musical pioneer

Today is the day that Antonio Vivaldi, the legendary composer was born. It’s actually the 332nd anniversary of his birth, and this landmark has even been acknowledged by Google. We know that what you’re all aching for is 10 items of Trivia about the man himself so here goes:

No. 1 – He was born in 1678 in Venice, to a professional violinist, and was one of 9 children.

No. 2 – He suffered from acute bronchial asthma.

No. 3 – He was ordained as a priest aged only 25

No. 4 – Some people thought he never wanted to be a priest as he stopped saying Mass after he was
Ordained

No. 5 – He had red hair and so was nicknamed the “Red Priest”, or “Il Prete Rosso”.

No. 6 – He composed over 500 concertos along with operas and religious pieces.

No. 7 – “The Four Seasons” is his most famous work and was composed in 1723.

No. 8 – He was accused of bragging and once said he could compose all the pieces of a concerto
quicker than it could be copied.

No. 9 – In the 1920’s the vast majority of what we know today of Vivaldi’s work was discovered in a
trunk. Much of his work disappeared.

No. 10- He was buried in an unmarked grave after dying a pauper in 1741.

Plenty of food for thought there. How remarkable to think that his music still lives on and is still popular over 300 years after his birth.
