‘Computer Addict’ Parents Let Real Life Child Die Due To Starvation

Parents that were addicted to an online computer game let their three-month-old baby starve to death while spending up to 12 hours a day raising another child… a virtual one, police said today.

Police have reported that the couple would leave their daughter at home in Suwon, South Korea, while they spent all day at internet cafe’s raising an Avatar baby through their favorite real-life style online game. It is thought that the real daughter of the parents only received one bottle of milk per day, and was found dead when they returned home from one of their online stints.

Kim Yoo-chul, who is 41 and mum Choi Mi-sun, 25 called the emergency services but told police that they found her in the dead state when they woke up in the morning.

The National Scientific Criminal and Investigation Laboratory conducted an autopsy on the girl, and revealed that the tot had appeared to have “starved to death because she was not fed for such a long period of time.”

According to The Sun, the three-month-old died last September, and after the funeral of their daughter, the shamed parents disappeared and went into hiding. But it did not last long after police caught up with them this Tuesday and have been charged with child abuse and neglect.

This article, while I'm sure it's getting you lots of web traffic, is inaccurate. The product that the parents were using was not Second Life, the source article on the Sun clearly states they were playing Prius Online. The fact that you're naming SL in the article title, three times in the body of the article, and using the Second Life logo as the illustration show you didn't bother to factually check the source article at all. For shame.

Please do more fact-checking before posting stories like this. For example, the game they were playing is named PRIUS not "Second Life". Second Life isn't a game, any more than the World Wide Web is a game.

Obviously the author of this piece didn't read the article. The story is not about Second Life, but a Korean MMO called PRIUS that the article claims is Second life like. The program is more akin to World of Warcraft then Second Life and is popular in South Korea.

The Sun amended their article to remove an inaccurate claim regarding the online resource used by the couple.

As stated, The Sun amended their article and did claim that 'Second Life' was the online resource being used by the parents at the time. They since recieved the correct information and changed the article as did we.
