Chile Aftershock Sparks Brief Panic in Concepcion

Ever since the massive 8.8-magnitude earthquake hit Chile last week, the region has been plagued with aftershocks. And another strong aftershock was felt in the region yesterday, which sparked brief panic among the people in the city of Concepcion.
But according to a report at Associated Press, there was no tsunami warning issued, and no injuries or damage had been reported. The U.S. Geological Survey has said that Wednesday’s temblor measured a magnitude of 5.9 on the Richter scale.
Fire officials used loudspeakers to assure residents of Concepcion that no tsunami was imminent, but that didn’t stop people from running to higher ground in fear. According to examiner.com, the initial earthquake has resulted in 802 deaths so far.
