Arrest made of John Albert Gardner, in Chelsea King disappearance case

In the case of the disappearance of Chelsea King, a 17-year-old teenager from San Diego, we hear news that an arrest has been made. Chelsea has been missing since Thursday when apparently she went running in the Rancho Bernardo Community Park, but has not been seen since, although her car was discovered in the park.

A registered sex offender in the state of California, John Albert Gardner aged 30, has now been arrested over the disappearance. His past offenses were lascivious or lewd acts with a child under 14. William D. Gore, San Diego County Sheriff said, “During the course of this extensive investigation, evidence was discovered that linked Gardner to Miss King, in such a manner to warrant his arrest”. It is believed investigators have found several pieces of physical evidence.

Gardner was taken into custody yesterday and taken to the Sheriff’s Administration Center in San Diego where he is being questioned. It is not yet known what specific charges have been established. Sheriff Gore has stressed that the investigation is not yet over and that searches are still taking place.

Although Chelsea King’s family must be distressed over this latest turn of events, Sheriff Gore appeared to be remaining positive saying when asked if he thought she was still alive, “We’re holding out that hope”, adding that Chelsea’s safe return is still their final aim.
