Dick Cheney in hospital after heart attack confirmed

Dick Cheney, who was taken to hospital yesterday suffering from chest pains, has in fact had a mild heart attack, his office confirmed today. The Ex US Vice President is now reported as ‘feeling good’ and it’s probable that he’ll leave his Washington hospital in a matter of days.

His office said that once in hospital Cheney “underwent a stress test and a heart catheterization.Mr Cheney had his first heart attack aged only 37 and has now had 5 attacks over 32 years.

He has previously had quadruple bypass surgery and a number of operations to clear blocked arteries. In 2001 he was also fitted with a pacemaker, and only 2 years ago had treatment to right an abnormal heart rhythm.

There have been reports that George W. Bush, the former president, phoned Mr Cheney whilst in hospital. It is not yet known if Mr Cheney will be capable of attending a reunion with Bush and other members of his administration due on Friday.
