Sarah Palin: ‘Family Guy’ mocked Trig

It seems as though Sarah Palin, the ex-Alaska governor, is deeply unhappy about an episode of “Family Guy” in which a character appears to make fun of her son Trig’s Down syndrome.

In the episode of the animated series on Sunday, a girl with Down syndrome is questioned about her parent’s occupation and replies “My dad’s an accountant, and my mom is the former governor of Alaska”. NJ.com report that on Bill O’Reilly’s show on Tuesday, Palin told him “When are we going to say this stuff isn’t really funny?”

She went on to say on Facebook that the episode, broadcast by Fox, was “a kick in the gut”. Her daughter Bristol had even stronger words condemning the storyline. Seth McFarlane, the “Family Guy” creator, said in a statement, that the foundation of the series was its biting satire.

What do you think of Sarah Palin’s take on this TV programme? There is certainly a fine line between humour and cruelty sometimes. Do you think the line was crossed in this episode?

I think the first sign of a good politician is to be able to ignore this sort of thing. There are so many real issues going on in the world that need addressing, who really cares about her opinion of a cartoon?. Giving it this kind of attention only causes more interest in it. Family Guy has no limits, nothing is sacred. Anyone who watches this show knows that & is what they like about it, and why it is so popular. It is a cartoon, nothing more. Sarah Palin seems to jump at any chance for media attention, and that should be a waring sign that she is not a good politician. She really should have more discretion on what she gets attention for. Hopefully, the unqualified, outspoken & uninformed pawn that is Palin never again sees any kind of political office. If the U.S. is fool enough to vote her in as President, they get what they deserve & God help them all. The country will be come a joke, a cartoon – but will play on for more than just 30 minutes every Sunday night. It is time we collectively stop paying attention to Palin and her family. Let's just think of her as a bullet that fortunately missed its target, and learn from our mistakes.

I, as many people do, think that kids of politicians should be off limits. Unless they put themselves out there in the public eye, like Bristol has. My problem with Sarah's stance is that it is inconsistent. Sarah is suppose to be a "real" person who says what she really thinks. Unfortunately, what she thinks is clearly affected by what political party the offending person is from.

Get in line Sarah. Family Guy has offended the following: handicapped/disabled adults & kids, people with HIV &cancer, deformed kids, stroke victims, southerners, the deaf, the ugly, southerners, African Americans, Asians, Jews, fat people, anorexic people, religion, Jesus, gays, unwed mothers, mothers……….. The list is too long. Need I remind you that the show is an animated satirical cartoon. It seems to me that Sarah Palin thinks Rush Limbaugh is satirical when he rants about "retards", but Family Guy is not a satire???????

and it's stupid because her comments about it make people want to watch family guy more out of curisosity and then it gets more ratings so she's doing them a favour :/

Family guy has always been known to push the boundaries. Hell, it's even been canceled twice by its own network! There is bound to be a part of at least one Family guy episode that offends us but we don't go crying about it. Get on with the comedy and let someone else enjoy the laugh you didn't get.

She is a walking contridiction, she complains of how politicians use teleprompters then writes her speech on her hand, and if she was any good she'd ignore it and focus on issues in reality then having a petty little squable about a cartoon i mean who isn't making fun of her

Thank you, thank you, thank you … thankfully she is not our VP can you imagine how here agenda would change every time someone poked some 'fun' at her or her family. Unbelievable – look around Sarah it's not the 50's anymore and you ain't in Alaska.

The best part is that Sarah Palin congratulates Rush Limbaugh for using "retard" in a "satirical" way — and he used it much more offensively (albeit less personally) than Family Guy — but when Family Guy, a satirical show, makes fun of retards, it's offensive again.

Apparently it's only offensive when it's politically advantageous to say it's offensive, and it's not offensive when it's politically advantageous to say it's not offensive.

By the way, the actress who played the girl with Down Syndrome on Family Guy actually has down syndrome, and she replied to Sarah's condemnation herself: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/02/18/family-g… Quite a burn, to be honest, especially the "loaf of French bread" line.

too bad it wasn't a speech she wrote on her hand. get your shit straight before you talk. she wrote a FEW key issues on her hand to remind herself to talk about them. are political figures just not allowed to right things down to help them remember when they make a speech?
