Valentine’s Day 2010: World’s most romantic word

In a survey taken before Valentine’s Day the word voted for as the most romantic word in the world is “amour”. The word chosen, as many of you will already know, is French and means ‘love’.
Today Translations, a company based in London, carried out the survey by polling over 320 language experts. It was found that Italian words were voted most romantic overall , followed by French words, then in joint third place, although some way behind, English and Spanish words.
The second most romantic word listed in the survey was “amore”, Italian for love. “Bellissima”, meaning beautiful in both Italian and Spanish, was in third place. In an amusing twist the linguists were asked which language sounded the most un-romantic when saying “I love you”. The winner in this category was “watakushi-wa anata-wo ai shimasu”, which for those non-linguists among us is Japanese.
With all this talk of romance we’d like to know your favourite romantic words and what have been the consequences of using them?
