Health Care Bill: Democrats Rethinking Their Strategy

Following on from the recent Massachusetts Senate race in which the Republicans took victory, President Barack Obama and the congressional Democrats have now decided to have a rethink on their healthcare strategy.
According to a report at latimes.com, they are now giving serious consideration to abandoning the comprehensive approach, to go more in favor of incremental steps that may just salvage the key elements of the package.
Without a filibuster-proof Senate majority, which was lost in the recent GOP victory, some Democrats hope they can win Republican support for limited changes to the healthcare system, including restrictions on insurance companies.
In an interview with ABC News, President Obama said “I would advise that we try to move quickly to coalesce around those elements in the package that people agree on.” He went on to say that he knows they need insurance reform.
Despite the fact that nearly all Republicans fought against the Democratic healthcare legislation last year, calling it too intrusive and too costly, some have actually indicated support for parts of the healthcare package.
