National Popcorn Day 2010: Many are happy to celebrate

I don’t know if many of you will know, but today January 19th, is National Popcorn Day. Now I don’t know about you, but does it appear that people will make up a day for any old reason nowadays. I mean it wasn’t that long ago, that it was National Cupcake Day too.
While no one really knows where the tradition of National Popcorn day originates from, what we do know is that corn popping was originally discovered by Native Americans. According to huliq.com, it became popular as a snack, during the United States Great Depression.
So whether you like your popcorn just plain, buttered, salted or even toffee if you’re anything like me, then you don’t have to go to the movies, just as an excuse to eat it. While others may think that it’s just another day, many are happy to celebrate National Popcorn day.
