Tehran Protests: Reports Say at Least One Shot Dead

Thousands of protesters were believed to have taken to the streets of Iran’s capital Tehran recently, in what can only be described as the fiercest clashes in months. And according to reports at news.bbc.co.uk, at least one protester is said to have been shot dead.

Opposition sources are saying that Iranian security forces opened fire on protesters and one person was believed to have been shot dead, although police are denying there had been any fatalities. Initial reports claimed that security forces had fired in the air.

Several other reports are claiming that at least one, but possibly as many as four demonstrators had been shot and killed in the protests. Opposition parties had apparently urged people to take to the streets, just as the Shia Muslim festival of Ashura was reaching its climax.
