Thousands of villagers from the areas surrounding Philippine’s Mount Mayon volcano, will more than likely be spending this Christmas in evacuation centers rather than at home, after government experts warned them that the volcano could well erupt for months.
According to reports from channelnewsasia.com, lava was seen pouring down the sides of the Mayon volcano on Wednesday. Five small explosions were detected from Mount Mayon early on Wednesday morning, with the last shooting ash 500 metres into the air.
Government volcanologist July Sabit, said that lava flow and lava fragments rolling down the volcano, are continuous now. He went on to say that there is a high probability that it will be like it for months. Mayon’s last eruption was 2006, which lasted two months.
