It was a massive shock to the German soccer federation and fans yesterday, when it was announced that German goalkeeper Robert Enke had committed suicide, by jumping in front of an express train, which was going through a crossing near Hanover.
And according to recent reports from reuters.com, it has now been revealed that Enke was in fact suffering from depression before he decided to kill himself. And this news was apparently confirmed by Enke’s wife Teresa and his doctor today.
Teresa has spoken out about Robert’s depression recently, saying that when he was acutely depressive, it was a very difficult time for them both. She went on to say that when he was like that, he lacked motivation and any hope of improvement.
Reports say that Enke left a suicide note, in which he apologized for hiding his condition leading up to his suicide. He had tried very hard to keep his depression secret from everyone. His wife said it’s crazy because it has come out now anyway.
