The Pharmaceutical giant Phizer have told dozens of staff their jobs could be at risk. At the
European research and development base in Sandwich, Phfizer yesterday told its staff that it plans to close its vaccine research and bio-therapeutics research departments.
Vice president and head of research at the Sandwich laboratories Dr David Roblin said “We’re not sure exactly what the impact will be on individual colleagues as we’re still merging the Wyeth and the Pfizer portfolio, Obviously there’s an immediate impact on those working in vaccines and bio-therapeutics, although many of those will have opportunities to move roles within Sandwich and within the global Pfizer network.”
Dr Roblin also went on to say that less then 50 members of staff would be affected, he also added “That doesn’t belittle any of our staff, all of whom have given valuable contributions to Sandwich. I expect the majority to find good roles within the network and within Pfizer.” Phizer its self issued a statement to say that it’s base in Sandwhich which employes over 3000 people, would still remain one of it’s five research sites along with ones based in America.
