New Jersey Governor Race 2009: Results show a Republican win
Posted by Tina Chubb | Wednesday, 4 November | Filed under U.S.

It was Election Day in the United States yesterday and the people of New Jersey were voting for their next governor. And according to reports from montrealgazette.com, the race for governor was won by Republican Chris Christie.
Christie’s win has come as a bit of an electoral blow for President Barack Obama, as he campaigned for Democrat Jon Corzine, who was the current governor of New Jersey. Christie managed to get 50 percent of the votes.
The announcement was made, after most of the votes had been counted. It may not have just been a blow to President Obama, but to some of the people of New Jersey as well, as it is said to be a heavily Democratic state.

Though NJ is a heavily democratic state, the cuts that Corzine made to the budget, primarily to post secondary education really angered alot of students as well as their parents causing a need for a change. His policies seemed harshly republican to begin with, and when one is presented with the choice of a de facto republican and a de jure one, might as well go for the one you know hasn’t been screwing you.
